Summary of Job
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Server Administrator to join our dynamic IT team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the efficient operation, maintenance, and security of our organization's servers, encompassing both on-premises Windows and Linux environments. In addition, this individual will liaison and coordinate with central City IT (OIT) for any networking related issue. This role will ensure the overall reliability and performance of our on-premise IT systems.
Job Responsibilities
Server Administration:
- Install, configure, and maintain on-premises Windows and Linux servers to support various applications and services.
- Update and patch applications on those servers to maintain the software at the latest version provided by our vendors.
- Monitor server performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure system reliability.
Security Management:
- Implement security measures to protect on-premises networks and servers from unauthorized access and cyber threats.
- Conduct regular security audits and implement necessary updates and patches.
Backup and Recovery:
- Coordinate with OIT to ensure the successful backup and recovery strategies for both Windows and Linux environments to have high levels of data integrity and availability.
- Test and verify backups regularly to mitigate data loss risks.
Network Liaison:
- Coordinate with OIT to manage routers, switches, firewall and other network devices.
- Design and maintain network infrastructure for on-premise systems to ensure connectivity between systems and smooth operations for end users.
- After initial triage, escalate any network outages with OIT and be a support to the team as the resolutions are worked on.
User Support:
- Provide technical support to end-users, addressing network and server-related issues.
- Collaborate with other IT professionals to deliver timely solutions.
Documentation:
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of network and server configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
Capacity Planning:
- Monitor resource usage trends and conduct capacity planning to anticipate and address future infrastructure needs.
Collaboration:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand and address business requirements
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 5 years of experience as a Network and Server Administrator, specifically managing on-premises Windows and Linux environments.
- Proficient knowledge of network protocols, security principles, and both Windows and Linux server operating systems.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to analyze and resolve complex technical issues.
- Certification in relevant technologies (e.g., Cisco, Microsoft, CompTIA, Linux) is a plus.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
