Role: Mainframe Batch Scheduler
Location : Chicago, IL (Onsite job from day 1) weekends – On call if required.
Contract
Responsibilities include:
· Supporting and maintaining the Scheduling Platform, running on BMC CONTROL-M (both TSO and Enterprise Manager GUI versions)
· Create/modify/maintain batch job schedules.
· Follow change control process for production job promotions.
· Identify and cleanup decommissioned jobs.
· Will be responsible to participate in Change Advisory Board (CAB) meetings and represent the Production Control team.
· Subject matter expert responsible for skilled Level 3 activities
· Resolve complicated issues escalated from Level 2 teams.
· Perform in-depth Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and support Problem Management activities.
· Handle Major Incidents and drive SWAT Calls implementing Risk.
· Implement Level 1 & 2 complex Changes.
· Identify Continuous Service Improvement (CSI) initiatives to improve the quality of service and reduce the cost of operations through Shift Left Service delivery.
· Perform / Lead Audit and DR activities.
· Introduce Automation and CI (continuous improvement) (Eg. health checks, patching, minor repetitive changes)
· Perform trend analysis on tickets for improvement opportunities on alert handling.
· Training / mentoring L2 analysts to groom further expertise.
· Cross-training other members of the team to build more breadth in coverage.
· Participate in training for new technologies as delivered by the ENG teams for support.
· Overseeing and participating in documentation maintenance
· Creation of documentation for each lesson learned by lower-level analysts to utilize in training.
· Performing ticket quality analysis
· On-call escalation support and upkeep of On-Call Schedules
· Overseeing the creation of and sharing the weekly team roster for the team
· Knowing escalation paths and expectations for least impacts to business and clients
· Acknowledging change tasks for proper content
· Good documentation - written, communication and verbal skills.
· Work closely with various Application support, Development, and z/OS Support teams for their batch scheduling requirements.
· Providing Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to determine the facts based on the problem.
Experience (Preferred)
· Sound hands on experience (6-10 years) as a Batch Job Scheduler (aka Production Control Analyst) working in Mainframe and Distributed environments.
· Review change requests and deploy batch jobs (add/remove/modify) in the Scheduler tool.
· Scheduling experience on Scheduler tool BMC CONTROL-M (TSO and Enterprise Manager GUI versions)
· Good knowledge of JCLs and PROCs
· Troubleshooting experience - job failures, hung jobs, and remote agent and resource issues, etc.
