Purpose of Position

Support daily production operations by sourcing and planning an optimum supply of material required for manufacturing to meet daily customer demand.  The primary job responsibilities are to utilize and monitor material planning and procurement procedures with minimal inventory investment and ensuring best price and on-time delivery. These procedures involve direct contact with outside suppliers, transportation carriers, VR Customer Service, Engineering, Marketing, and Operation staffs to meet/exceed current and projected customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and maintain Blanket and Discrete Purchase Orders. Ensure acknowledgement of Purchase Orders.
• Direct contact with outside suppliers, transportation carriers, customer service, and operations staffs to meet current and projected customer requirements, assuring material availability and optimal inventory levels and price. 
• Assist with Root Cause/ Corrective Actions to short term and permanent solutions to material supply issues.
• Work closely with Materials and Operations departments and suggest and implement appropriate procurement method (JIT, Reorder Point, Consignment, Reducing Lead-times, or Scheduled Releases) based on part characteristics, supplier, and demand to optimize material velocity and availability.
• Contributes, in the capacity of a team member, individually, or as a reference, to resolving materials quality issues and increasing manufacturing productivity.
• Achieve department performance goals (ie. PPV, supplier OTD, inventory reduction, and payment term improvement).
• Develop new sources for existing materials where doing so will improve overall quality, on time delivery, inventory reduction, and PPV goals.

• Identify supply risks and develop countermeasures to ensure continuity of supply.
• Utilize available tools (VBS toolbox, kaizen, direct negotiation, etc) to achieve best overall supply chain solution for quality, delivery, and cost.
• Ensure prompt payment of suppliers by ensuring the Purchase Order prices and vendor invoice prices match and resolving receipt errors as required.
• Other duties as assigned by Manager

     Background and Skills

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain/Logistics, Engineering or a related field required.
• One (1) to three (3) years’ experience in a related field is preferred.
• Ability to work without close supervision.
• Proficient at the use of MS office applications including Word, Excel, Project, and Access.
• Understanding of Lean Manufacturing and Project Management concepts and methods.
