Position Overview

Supports the design and implementation of preventative and repair maintenance programs, policies, and procedures which reduce the risk of equipment failure and maximize productivity utilizing Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) Methodology.

Conducts research to identify new or advanced equipment that will serve as better alternatives for the replacement or upgrade of worn-out machines and to manage the projects related to implementation of these improvements utilizing a positive leadership, team-based approach.

Oversees the day-to-day operations of the maintenance function while using effective utilization of resources and equipment.

Evaluates and assesses systems and facilities to determine maintenance needs, plan work assignments, and manage project schedules.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Works to supply products and services that meet or exceed the customers’ expectations. Follows the documented quality systems and processes that are continually being improved to satisfy our customers’ needs.
• Performs daily and weekly inspection of facility to ensure smooth operations.
• Hires and trains maintenance employees to carry out specialized duties.
• Delegates maintenance issues to appropriate personnel for effective resolution.
• Inspects equipment to identify operational inefficiency and facilitate optimization.
• Creates systems to train Operators to perform periodic maintenance and routine calibration of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
• Supports project management with new installations and Excess & Obsolescence (E&O), facilitating disposal of worn-out/damaged machinery as well as the installation of new equipment and processes.
• Provide technical advice and recommendations to the maintenance team to ensure an efficient workforce and empower their success
• Conduct risk assessments to identify and resolve possible hazards within building facilities or processes.
• Supports adherence to health/safety procedures and policies both by training employees and by implementing engineering countermeasures to reduce risk.
• Supports preparation and management of project and maintenance budgets to meet set objectives.
• Monitor equipment inventory and place orders when necessary to ensure availability of required resources for both spare and emergency replacement needs.
• Conduct negotiations with third party contractors using RFP/SOW methodology to determine service supplier qualifications for referral to Purchasing for final approval.
• Maintain accurate record of maintenance operations and present to upper management reports of weekly activities.
• May assist Team Members in other duties or special projects as needed.

Critical Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

• Mechanical: Strong mechanical ability and troubleshooting skills. Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
• Communicating with Supervisors, Peers, or Subordinates: Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
• Engineering and Technology: Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and processes to the design and production of various goods and services.
• Building and Construction: Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of buildings.
• Inspecting Equipment, Structures, or Material: Inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
• Handling and Moving Objects: Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials and manipulating things.
• Operating Vehicles, Mechanized Devices, or Equipment: Running, maneuvering, navigating, or driving vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as forklifts, company vehicles, etc.
• Making Decisions and Solving Problems: Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
• Repairing and Maintaining Mechanical Equipment: Servicing, repairing, adjusting, and testing machines, devices, moving parts, and equipment that operate primarily based on mechanical principles.
• Performing General Physical Activities: Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
• Safety and Security: Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective safety for the protection of people and property.
• Tools: Personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, electrical PPE, etc.), welders, drills, saws, hand tools, electrical testing equipment, grease guns, machines, hammers, drain cleaning equipment, computers, and phone.

Qualifications

• This position requires the individual to have a technical certification in electrical, mechanical, and/or hydraulics from a technical college or program; ten (10) years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with 480 volt 3-phase circuits dealing with electrical supply and manufacturing equipment is strongly preferred.

Preferences

• Experience with overhead cranes and forklifts.
• Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) experience.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• This position supervises the work of maintenance techs.

The employee is frequently required to be in a stationary position, move about the buildings, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to perform any and all work in tall areas and confined spaces in all weather conditions.

Position is required to be on call 24 hours a day to address any issues that may arise during other shifts.
