This class is responsible as shift supervisor, primarily over equipment maintenance operations. Includes supervision and performance of maintenance and repair of transit buses, automobiles, support equipment, buildings and facility systems, including the CNG fueling station.
The Maintenance Supervisor has responsibility to:
- Plan, organize and supervise the maintenance and repair of buses, trucks/automobiles (diesel and compressed natural gas), support equipment (e.g., steam cleaner, hoists, and bus cleaner), buildings, building systems and major equipment, including the CNG fuel station ; prioritize work assignments by evaluating mechanical condition of vehicle or equipment review of work order information and established criteria; assign repair/maintenance work to current or next shift.
- Assist mechanics in diagnosing equipment malfunctions and completing arduous segments of repair activity; assist in supplying parts by checking stock on hand or ordering and dispatching a parts runner; inspect completed repair work and conduct quality control and road tests; perform maintenance and repair work on buses, automobiles and support equipment, as needed.
- Review and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations; perform safety inspections and provide on-going training in safe work methods; investigate accidents and incidents in order to prepare related reports.
- Perform work in support of administrative activities for inventory control, time reporting, safety and service record maintenance and work orders; perform and/or assist in technical skills training to upgrade individual skills and/or provide instruction on new equipment/methods.
- Utilize maintenance software programs to monitor operations, access information, track maintenance trends and run reports.
- Oversee facility and equipment repair, maintenance or installation activities.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
May be assigned additional supervisory or administrative responsibility. May be assigned to act as Director of Fleet and Facilities in absence of Director. Perform related duties as assigned.
High school diploma and equivalent of five years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance and/or facility maintenance. It is desirable for candidate to supplement experience with training in supervision and safety (OSHA/hazardous materials). Relevant educational background may be substituted for experience.
