    Departmental Overview

    The intellectual heart of UC Berkeley, the College of Letters & Science is the largest of the university's 14 colleges and schools and is home to more than 80 departmental majors in five academic divisions: Arts & Humanities, Biological Sciences, Mathematical & Physical Sciences, and Social Sciences and Undergraduate Studies. The College of Letters & Science has more than half of the campus's faculty, and over 24,000 students; 75% of Berkeley's undergraduate students are L&S majors.

    From ancient times to the present day, people around the globe have raised fundamental questions about life through the arts, literature and philosophy. In the Arts & Humanities Division (A&H), faculty and students explore the human experience across an exceptionally broad range of subjects. By studying the world's languages and cultures, students expand their horizons and prepare themselves for an increasingly multicultural world.     Responsibilities

    Major Gift Analysis
    Analyze and synthesize knowledge on donors and campus priorities, attending closely to donors' interests. Conduct informal prospect research; summarize and prepare background information, including accurate summary analysis of donor giving histories, with attentiveness to how donors view the story of their own philanthropy. Pull data reports from CADS and other research-related sources for alumni populations based on demographics, capacity to give, giving history, career, and other categories. Support the Division with Big Give, Giving Tuesday, Crowdfunding, and other annual fund and giving campaigns by providing the departments, centers, and programs within the Division with the relevant background information to successfully participate in these campaigns. Support the assistant dean of development with scheduling, reimbursements, travel arrangements, and other administrative tasks. Help support fundraising and development events for the development team by securing space, catering, and managing other logistical issues related to the event. Review daily/weekly/fiscal year gift reports summarizing donors giving $5000 or more with brief research background on each.
    Project Management
    Engage partnership of colleagues throughout Development and on the campus, including UDAR's External Relations & Marketing and Communications team, Annual Fund, Events, and Donor & Gift Services team, to produce custom communications including proposals and stewardship materials, managing these projects from inception to timely completion. Help plan, choreograph, and execute donor visits and events with companion collateral that advance strategic priorities. Plan programming in consultation with fundraisers and team leadership; manage logistics and follow-up.
    Communication
    Prepare donor briefings with background information on the prospect's history of Berkeley engagement, their giving to Berkeley broken down by campus units, their career information, capacity to give, and other relevant information. Draft and edit a range of custom materials important to advancing relationships with high-level donors and prospects. Materials may include researching for proposals, briefings for donor meetings, suggested talking points, unique stewardship reports and materials, presentations with data and graphics, other external facing content on the divisional website and correspondence on behalf campus leaders. Ensure accuracy of all written pieces. Manage and review the gift acknowledgments to donors and make suggested corrections to the templates based on the donor, their giving, and the donor's relationship to campus. Support the direct mail/annual fund program including email/mail communication by drafting content for solicitations while partnering with the assistant dean of development and the assistant director of external communications within the Division of Arts & Humanities.
    Prospect Analysis and Advancement Support
    Serve as lead and conduct constituency-based analysis, capture, coding and reporting in partnership with Prospect Development; compile raw data, analyze results, visualize key findings by creating charts and infographics; develop list criteria, prepare and curate constituency lists for programs, centers, newsletters, events, etc. Track on and be knowledgeable about strategies, current engagements and next steps for constituency strategies and pipelines, including using the campus donor database. Conduct analysis in partnership with Prospect Development on trends, pipeline maintenance and various fundraising reports that help the Assistant Dean, gift officers and divisional leadership understand where they need to focus their time.
    Required Qualifications
    Strong analytical and critical thinking skills; ability to think strategically about donor engagement at the highest level. Excellent writing and research skills, including ability to make complex information clear and accessible for multiple audiences and shape it for specific purposes; logical and readable organization; proficiency with grammar, syntax, style and punctuation. Outstanding organizational and project management skills; exceptional attention to detail and follow-through. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail since some of the written materials will be reviewed by the dean, chancellor, donors, and other campus leaders. Knowledge of/experience with conducting research and analysis through databases/online information systems. Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and other relevant software. Excellent oral and interpersonal communications skills, including political acumen and active listening, to build and maintain effective working relationships at all organizational levels within UDAR and across the campus. Ability and flexibility to act as a member of a high-performing team of development professionals with diverse skill sets and functions. Working knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques. Knowledge of the UC Berkeley campus or experience in a complex, multi-disciplinary environment. Ability to keep highly confidential information private. Strong professional integrity, intellectual curiosity, and an exemplary ability to collaborate within and across teams. Ability to work efficiently, set priorities among multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and achieve goals. Tact, discretion, and sound judgement, including in handling confidential information. Be able to represent the team at important campus events in a professional manner. Build strong relationships with key campus and divisional partners. Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
