Major Gifts Manager manages and implements a philanthropic gift program to nurture and solicit relationships with corporate, institutional, and major donors. Develops a portfolio of existing and potential donors and a strategy to enhance and extend relationships to generate philanthropic revenue. Being a Major Gifts Manager organizes events and meetings with prospects to raise awareness of the organization's mission and highlight accomplishments and ongoing funding needs. Makes regular personal contact with key contributors to strengthen relations with the organization. Additionally, Major Gifts Manager oversees proposal preparation and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Major Gifts Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Major Gifts Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required. - Develops, manages, and solicits an active portfolio of 150 donors and prospective donors.
- Writes proposals, follow-up letters, introductory letters and prepares background information and materials for cultivation and solicitation activities.
- Prepares and enters reports of monthly donor contact into donor data system.
- Plans and maintains visiting travel schedule of a minimum of 10 days per month.
- Works closely with Advancement colleagues in Alumni, Development, Planned Giving and Trust Services and the Howard Performing Arts Center to fulfill the goals specified in Andrews University's Current Strategic Plan
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

- Ability to use office technology and information systems (including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and donor database.

- Superior interpersonal, oral, and written communication and presentation skills with the ability to represent Andrews University's mission and interests to a diverse group of alumni and friends.

Physical demands
Ability to travel for multiple days handling the stresses of the road with patient endurance.
Work environment
