Major Gifts Manager manages and implements a philanthropic gift program to nurture and solicit relationships with corporate, institutional, and major donors. Develops a portfolio of existing and potential donors and a strategy to enhance and extend relationships to generate philanthropic revenue. Being a Major Gifts Manager organizes events and meetings with prospects to raise awareness of the organization's mission and highlight accomplishments and ongoing funding needs. Makes regular personal contact with key contributors to strengthen relations with the organization. Additionally, Major Gifts Manager oversees proposal preparation and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Major Gifts Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Major Gifts Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Job Description

    As a socially responsible health care employer and provider, we require our associates to show proof of annual influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations unless approved exemption is provided.     **Position is remote but open only to residents of Greater Cleveland/Northeast Ohio Region. Must Reside in Northeast Ohio at time of start date.**

     

    SUMMARY

    The Major Gifts Officer has primary responsibility for the solicitation of leadership level gifts from donors ranging from $10,000 for donors in Northeast Ohio. This position is charged to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major donors in an assigned regional portfolio. The Major Gifts Officer also establishes and provides strategic direction in community engagement and the creation of Affinity Groups.

    WHAT YOU WILL DO

    • Strategy – In concert with the organization’s strategic priorities and in collaboration with the development team, develop and recommend a strategy for Major Gift donors that will:
      • Retains existing donors;
      • Increases the average gift size; and,
      • Expands the number of donors.
    • Plan Management – Develop a Major Gift donor plan with tactics that support the identified strategy. Educate, within the Development team, the plan tactics and goals to ensure the plan is accepted and incorporated into the overall Development plans and operations.
    • Donor Engagement and Relationships – Engage donors through effective communications (e.g., written, web and social media, events). Build relationships with donors in the portfolio and positions donors to move up the donor pyramid. Cultivate Major Gift donors and solicit gifts to maximize philanthropic giving for the targeted segment.
    • Team Collaboration – Work closely with the team to ensure overall success of the Development function. Support team members with parallel fundraising activities, such as Midlevel gift work, annual fund, events, planned giving, and campaigns.
    • Maintain a strong and growing portfolio of major donors for assigned territory that focuses on retention, upgrades, and acquisitions with the goal of increasing philanthropic giving, year-after-year.
    • Create prospect strategies for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship that includes in-person meetings and site visits, proposals, cases for support, participation in events, and leadership engagement, where appropriate.
    • Build a funding plan to properly forecast, track, and successfully hit annual goals for this portfolio.
    • In partnership with Leadership, develop a multiyear strategy to build and launch unique PPGOH Affinity Groups. Include methods to engage and deepen the understanding, commitment and support of community members and donors within Affinity Groups.
    • Provide strategic direction to the Affinity Group, including recruitment, meeting planning, and group activities.
    • Create and manage the business plan for the Affinity Group, thereby guiding the work and establishing the vision and function of the group aligned with PPGOH’s mission and values.
    • Track, maintain and provide monthly updates and reports on group membership and initiatives.
    • Build a structure and strategy that could be replicated for other unique audiences across our service region.
    • Serve as a community connector in Northeast Ohio to help broaden and deepen our supporter base across Northeast Ohio, particularly communities who have historically been excluded from philanthropic circles.

     

    WHAT YOU WILL BRING

    • Bachelor’s degree
    • Minimum of 3 years of prior experience preparing donor proposals and reports.
    • Other professional writing experience may be considered in lieu of previous fundraising experience.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and skilled with constituent databases
    • Ability to travel across the state
    • Fluent in written and spoken English
    • Passion for sexual and reproductive rights, and social justice.
    • Working knowledge of current trends in charitable giving.
    • Proven ability to absorb and synthesize complex program information and translate into a compelling case for donors.
    • Impeccable writing and editing skills; ability to translate complex ideas and strategies into clear, concise and compelling narratives; experience with grant writing, reporting and management preferred.
    • Demonstrated interest in fundraising, development, constituency building,
    • Demonstrated ability to represent an organization and build relationships
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, both written and verbal
    • Comfort working independently and as team member with initiative and flexibility
    • Ability and discretion to work with high level decisions makers, ability to make persuasive case for supporting key programs and projects and effectively match the interests of prospective donors to PPGOH priorities.
