Major Gifts Manager manages and implements a philanthropic gift program to nurture and solicit relationships with corporate, institutional, and major donors. Develops a portfolio of existing and potential donors and a strategy to enhance and extend relationships to generate philanthropic revenue. Being a Major Gifts Manager organizes events and meetings with prospects to raise awareness of the organization's mission and highlight accomplishments and ongoing funding needs. Makes regular personal contact with key contributors to strengthen relations with the organization. Additionally, Major Gifts Manager oversees proposal preparation and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Major Gifts Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions.     Ritter Center is currently recruiting for a Major Gifts Officer. This full-time, exempt position reports to the Chief Development Officer. This role is based in San Rafael, CA, operating out of our Administrative Offices.

    Position Description: 

    The Major Gifts Officer will report to the Chief Development Officer. This is a new position created to help meet the growing needs of Ritter Center and its expanding Development Department. The Major Gifts Officer will serve as a frontline fundraiser, support the CEO, CDO, and Capital Campaign Committee in key donor engagement strategies to reach its capital campaign goal and sustain the major gifts pipeline to formalize the major gifts program.

    The key to success in this role will be identifying and building relationships with new prospects, as well as strengthening relationships with existing donors to maximize philanthropic support. A project overview can be viewed at ritterbuildshope.org.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Identify and qualify new major gift prospects and create a comprehensive strategy for donor cultivation, solicitation, and retention based on historical giving, capacity, and industry knowledge.
    • Manage an active portfolio of 40-50 donors for cultivation, briefing, solicitation, and stewardship.
    • Directly solicit key major gifts and partner with the CEO and Capital Campaign Committee Chair by providing prospect briefings, strategic guidance, and assistance with donor communications.
    • Develop, plan, and participate in strategic donor engagement opportunities, such as small events for select prospects in the portfolio and larger donor stewardship events.
    • Deliver a high-quality donor experience through regular correspondence, tailored proposals, timely gift acknowledgments, and effective stewardship activities.
    • Track prospect activity by maintaining regular reports that accurately reflect progress toward annual fundraising goals rooted in building relationships and increasing donor support.
    • Participate in planning meetings and partner with the Capital Campaign Cabinet (Committee), Development Committee, and other Development staff to execute strategy and events.
    • Ensure that all data related to prospects and donors is recorded and tracked in the database, updating donor records and assisting with database maintenance as needed.
    • Provide support to other functions of the development department as needed.
    • Assume responsibility for other projects as assigned by the CDO and CEO.


    Qualifications:

    • Per OSHA requirements, employment at Ritter Center requires compliance with being able to produce a negative TB test prior to the start of employment, as well as being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (unless applying for an exemption) per the August 5th State Public Order for Healthcare Facilities, providers and employees.
    • A bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
    • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in relevant aspects of fundraising required.
    • A proven track record of soliciting and closing major gifts ($10,000 ).
    • Experience in relationship-based fundraising with an intentional focus on cultivation, stewardship, and building personal relationships with philanthropists to secure major gifts.
    • Capital campaign experience.
    • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies, including staff, board members, and donors with varying levels of philanthropic sophistication.
    • Experience developing and executing fundraising strategies.
    • Ability to maintain the highest level of discretion with respect to confidential information.
    • Superior knowledge and command of Microsoft Office products.
    • Experience working with donor CRM software (DonorPerfect and iWave experience preferred).
    • A strong customer service ethic and high expectations for quality.
    • A high degree of initiative and resourcefulness.
