Major Gifts Manager manages and implements a philanthropic gift program to nurture and solicit relationships with corporate, institutional, and major donors. Being a Major Gifts Manager organizes events and meetings with prospects to raise awareness of the organization's mission and highlight accomplishments and ongoing funding needs. Makes regular personal contact with key contributors to strengthen relations with the organization. Additionally, Major Gifts Manager oversees proposal preparation and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Major Gifts Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions.     The Senior Foundation Major Gift Officer is responsible for managing and securing philanthropic gifts of $100,000 or more towards the overall individual major gift goal of the Office of Development set annually and the Arc of Care Campaign Goal. This position manages: a prospect portfolio and applies moves management to approximately 150 donors; conducts 125 visits per year; works with the Senior Vice President (SVP) of the Office of Development on the visitation and events calendar for strategic prospect visits; supports and promotes the Elias C. Benedict Legacy Society for the Foundation; and assists in the implementation of a Concierge program. The position also requires: aggressive development and maintenance of relationships with donors and prospects; function as part of the Greenwich Hospital Office of Development management team in achieving identified priorities; and understanding and communicating the funding needs of the hospital to volunteer solicitors, board members and prospective donors.

    Responsibilities

    1. Manage prospect portfolio and apply moves management to approximately 150 donors in support of the individual Major Gift goal for the Office of Development.

    1.1    Solicit major and leadership gifts in support of targeted Hospital priorities as outlined in the Arc of Care Campaign.

    1.2    Manage 125 visits annually.

    1.3    Advance balance of donors in portfolio via moves management – from discovery to cultivation/solicitation – ultimately incorporating them into top 25 list.

    1.4.   Create solicitations proposals specific to donor interest and close solicitations.

    1.5    Manage all input of donor information in Raiser’s Edge inclusive of call reports, moves management details and related information.

    1.6    Master and make use of Relationship Science for donor research and strategy development.

    1.7    In collaboration with the President and SVP write special project prospect letters; proposals and email correspondences.

    1.8    Steward donors via acknowledgement letters, special stewardship letters, phone calls, visits and special major gift events.

    1.9    Provide Office of Development team with timely updates/insights regarding prospects

    1.10  Coordinate with SVP on Office of Development gift agreements.

    1.11. Review, assess and secure visits with new donors via prospect lists and research reports.

    1.13  Solicit/Steward members of the Chairman’s Council for the Annual Fund within his/her portfolio on an annual basis inclusive of acknowledgement letters.

    1.14  Work collaboratively with the Major Gift and Special Events team members and the SVP to plan and implement donor celebrations and gatherings.

    1.15  Work occasional late evenings and weekends to staff special events.

                       

    2. In partnership with the Major Gift Team and the Senior Vice President, implements the Elias C. Benedict Legacy Society, the concierge Program and regional fundraising.

                       

    3. Supports the Major Gift team in the development of written materials that communicate Greenwich Hospital’s philanthropic story.


    Qualifications

    EDUCATION

     

    Bachelor's Degree, Masters preferred

     

    EXPERIENCE

     

    - 8 to 10 years successful experience in Development with emphasis in major gifts, planned giving, campaigns, Annual Fund and regional programming development.

    - Ability to understand and couple/link the needs, interests and affinities of leadership level donors with relevant Hospital initiatives.

    - Act as liaison between donors, doctors and Hospital leadership to promote institutional strategic goals with philanthropic giving via the development of longstanding relationships.

    - Demonstrate leadership by acquiring awareness and mastery of all key functional sectors/service lines of the Hospital and broader organization in service of fundraising goals.

    - Self-starting ability and management of expansive portfolio of high level donors including: outreach, cultivation and solicitation strategies.

    - Completion of Foundation team/group assignments and ability to take on projects as necessitated.

     

    SPECIAL SKILLS

    - Proven track record of attaining “cold call” prospect visits. 

    - Proven track record of soliciting and closing leadership level philanthropic support.

    - Consistently demonstrate exceptional written and communication skills.

    - Expert interpersonal skills and ability to build enduring relationships.

    - Interdisciplinary understanding of healthcare industry trends in relation to donor base.

    - Exceptional writing and editorial ability.

    - Ability to be flexible, nimble, offer leadership, best practice advice and project supervise.

    - Active member of Office of Development team.

     

     

    PHYSICAL DEMAND

     

    Availability to work nights and weekends as needed.

     


    Additional Information

    Reports to the Senior Vice President, Greenwich Hospital Office of Development.

    The Senior Foundation Major Gift Officer directly solicits philanthropic support which influences Hospital operations and initiatives. Particular emphasis on incorporation of new donors, stewardship of longstanding donors and participation in bespoke events whose purpose is the building of future relationships and the cultivation of prospects. Responsible for writing solicitation proposals, stewardship reports, promotional materials, timelines and schedules.

Creative attention to detail and an interdisciplinary understanding of Hospital operations, industry trends, current events and compliance guidelines to service the Office of Development and Hospital’s internal objectives and external public outreach.
