Mammography Technologist operates specialized X-ray equipment and performs various mammography related procedures including screenings and diagnostic studies. Develops and evaluates the film for technical quality such as density contrast, definition, and distortion. Being a Mammography Technologist creates and maintains patient records and files according to required procedure. Cleans and adjusts equipment as needed. Additionally, Mammography Technologist requires an associate degree or completion of a formal radiologic technology training program. Typically reports to a chief technologist or manager. The Mammography Technologist is responsible for performing diagnostic mammography procedures, transporting patients, and providing clinical clerical support, while the Computed Tomography Technologist is responsible for performing diagnostic imaging services in the specialty of Computed Tomography. These technologists are responsible for the safe operation of a variety of equipment to produce images of the patient’s body for diagnostic purposes.
Essential Job Functions
Mammography Technologist
• Maintains equipment by reporting
malfunctions and assists in departmental supply acquisition. Mammography
procedure responsibilities include operating mammography equipment.
• Performs quality mammography
services at the request of physicians, according to guidelines established by
the American Cancer Society, American College of Radiology, HCFA, OSHA, and
FDA.
• Prepares the mammography suite
for the patient by assuring cleanliness and acceptability of appropriate areas
and setting up the equipment for special cases. Positions the patient and
thoroughly explains the procedure as well as alleviating apprehension and
promoting cooperation as much as possible.
• Informs management or Lead
Mammography Technologist of any unusual concerns, situation, or conditions
relative to staff, patients, and physicians.
• Maintains adequate inventory of
all required supplies by informing appropriate personnel for acquisition.
• Assures that the mammography
program is in compliance with regulating agencies by completing appropriate
clerical work needed to perform the exams.
• May assist with performing
quality control tests for mammography equipment according to established
guidelines by the American College of Radiology and FDA.
• Identifies needs and sets goals
for own growth and development; meets all mandatory organizational and
departmental requirements.
• Maintains competency in all
organizational, departmental, and outside agency environmental, employee or
patient safety standards relevant to job performance.
• Performs other duties as
assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

CT Technologist
• Calibrates equipment and reviews
general maintenance needs.
• Performs clinical assessment and
computed tomography exams as ordered by the physician. Interviews patient
explains examination procedures and process and assists in positioning patient
for procedures.
• Reviews patient history and
previous scans (if applicable) with the radiologists.
• Uses cognitive CT skills to
identify, record and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical,
pathological, diagnostic information and images. Coordinates with other staff
to ensure appropriate patient care is provided. Performs CT scans entering data
such as type of scan requested, slice thickness, scan time, other technical
data.
• Analyzes exams, synthesizes CT
information, medical history, and utilizes independent judgment during the CT
exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.
Prepares preliminary reports and checklist for the radiologist. Reviews exam
with the radiologist when appropriate. Communicates with attending and/or
referring physicians as appropriate.
• Maintains CT scan records and
patient records in accordance with Billings Clinic policies, procedures, and
standards.
• Assists physicians with cyst
aspirations, biopsies, and abscess drainages.
• Coordinates scheduling,
transportation and scanning of patients.
• Maintains competency in all
organizational, departmental, and outside agency environmental, employee or
patient safety standards relevant to job performance. Complies with general
training required by Billings Clinic as well as specific training requirements
of the position.
• Performs other duties as
assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

Minimum Qualifications
Mammography Technologist
Education
• Graduate of a recognized, approved
American Medical Association Council of Education program in radiological
technology
Experience
• One (1) year experience as Diagnostic Imaging Technologist
Certifications and Licenses
• CPR Certification as a Healthcare

• ARRT Mammography certification
within 6 months of hire - Within 6 months of hire
• Current Montana license as a
