Mammography Technologist operates specialized X-ray equipment and performs various mammography related procedures including screenings and diagnostic studies. Develops and evaluates the film for technical quality such as density contrast, definition, and distortion. Being a Mammography Technologist creates and maintains patient records and files according to required procedure. Cleans and adjusts equipment as needed. Additionally, Mammography Technologist requires an associate degree or completion of a formal radiologic technology training program. Typically reports to a chief technologist or manager. Requires American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT)Diagnostic Mammography. Mammography Technologist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction and supervision of radiologist/physician, lead technologist, and JACBCC manager, the breast imaging specialist shall be responsible for performing screening and diagnostic breast imaging studies, general diagnostic radiology exams and dexa scans. Manager of the center provides operational oversight related to policy/procedure/staffing patterns and quality assurance in conjunction with the Breast Program Leadership and the JACBCC Operational Committee. Will work effectively in a team, as well as independently. Is customer friendly, works well with physicians, and other staff, and ancillary departments. Observes all radiation safety guidelines and performs other duties which assist in the provision of quality patient care according to the mission and values of the ministry. Cares for all age groups. Must be willing to assist with MQSA, ACR and NAPBC accreditations.

2 years of general radiography preferred
2 years mammography
Breast ultrasonography experience preferred.
Previous experience in performing DEXA exams and stereotactic breast biopsy procedures desirable.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
PRINCIPAL JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Performs screening/diagnostic breast imaging studies, general radiology exams and dexa scans under the supervision of the radiologist. Maintains competency in mammography. Reviews all exams for quality and completeness. Ensures radiation safety to the patient, public, and self. Communicates with all staff members any information that affects the efficient operation of the department. Supports and participates in quality improvement services. Utilizes department quality indicators and department outpatient surveys to improve patient care. Maintains a clean work area and stocks supplies as appropriate. Educates patients and families in regard to tests and procedures. Performs QC. Understands and interprets QC results. Has the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Contributes and participates in FDA/MQSA inspection. Aids in ACR and NAPBC accreditation process. Maintains required CEU's for certification. Participates in volunteer work for the JACBCC> Has an in-depth understanding of breast anatomy and ultrasound. Demonstrates a knowledge of institutional regulations regarding patient care, fire, and safety. Can assess patients ranging in age from neonatal to geriatric. Adheres to work schedule, and schedules PTO time off in accordance to departmental policy. Maintains equipment and reports problems promptly. Attends departmental staff meetings and inservices as required, as documented by sign-in sheets. Participates in own performance appraisal by identifying individual goals and reviewing progress with mgr. Contributes to the time management of the department by being punctual to work and on assignments according to the health centers policy. Demonstrates the awareness of the importance placed upon wearing hospital identification by evidence of no more than 3 incidences of noncompliance. Promotes a professional image by adhering to the established dress code. Recognizes when others are in need of assistance and consistently offers to help when own workload permits or finds someone who can.
2. Performs all clerical duties needed to assist in the patient care process.
a. Receives, screens, and delivers all messages to proper staff members.
b. Responsible for gathering and delivering all patient records to physicians to interpret exams performed.
c. Demonstrates proficiency and skill using health center/department computerized information systems.
3. Responsible for collection of any specific department data.
a. Demonstrates proper documentation of all patient care.
b. Performs quality control testing as required by department.
4. Communicates with all staff members any information that affects the efficient operation of the department.
a. Supports and participates in quality improvement of services.

5. Performs other duties as necessary to assure quality care of patients.
a. Assists with orientating and training other staff technologists, residents, and/or students.
