Managing Attorney is responsible for managing the daily operations of a law firm or an organization's legal department. Provides leadership and participates in the most complex legal actions. Being a Managing Attorney directs law office operations, case assignments, and staffing. Oversees the activities and work products of subordinate attorneys. Additionally, Managing Attorney monitors case status, timelines, and issues. Mentors and coaches attorneys and implements staff professional development programs. Requires a JD. Requires State Bar membership. Typically reports to top legal executive. The Managing Attorney manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Managing Attorney typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required.     The ideal candidate would have at least 3 years of relevant legal experience and would be able and willing to immediately assume responsibilities related to representation, including client meetings, court appearances, legal research, drafting pleadings, and case preparation and management.

    We currently have 3 attorneys and 5 support staff in a fun, fast-paced, and collegial work environment. We are located in a lovely office space in a newly renovated historic building.

    Duties:

    • Conduct client meetings, including consultations and during cases
    • Represent clients in various litigation and transactional matters
    • Draft legal documents, including petitions, motions, briefs, orders, contracts, wills, trusts, deeds, etc.
    • Appear in court and other proceedings
    • Negotiate with opposing counsels
    • Advise clients on rights and obligations
    • Develop strategies for cases and clients
    • Maintain successful relationships with clients, courts, staff, other attorneys, etc.
    • Manage cases independently
    • Collaborate with colleagues on complex matters
    • Stay updated on changes in laws and regulations that may affect client cases

    Requirements:

    • Admitted to practice law in Tennessee (Kentucky would be a nice bonus)
    • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
    • Commitment to ethical and quality representation
    • Knowledge of Tennessee Rules of Civil Procedure and Rules of Evidence
    • Proficient in legal research tools such as Westlaw or Lexis
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
    • High attention to detail
    • Self-motivated
    • Organized
    • Efficient
    • Ability to work independently
    • Ability to work within an office team
