The Fort Stockton Pioneer, an award-winning community newspaper since 1908, is looking to hire a full-time local general reporter to cover a wide variety of news in our community. We are an award-winning weekly community newspaper located in Fort Stockton, Texas.
We publish weekly with also online and social media components. We aim high and expect reporters to establish relationships in their coverage areas to best monitor the pulse of the community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Covering city and county governmental meetings and feature stories and a reporter to cover sports if needed. Must have story-telling abilities and a constant awareness of what people are sharing and talking about on social media. It will require a demonstrated commitment to constantly adapting to the ever-evolving ways in which readers seek out and interact with journalism. This reporter will break news, hold government agencies accountable, and will explain to readers how local government is helping or hurting them. This reporter will tell the story of how local and state politics weave into what's happening in their community.
QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:
Strong writing, verbal and reporting skills, and excellent news judgment. Commitment to accurate, ethical journalism. Fluency in AP Style writing. The ability to engage with readers and develop sources on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Ability to meet deadlines. Ability to collaborate on new projects and work in a fast-paced environment. Moving assistance is available for the right candidate.
