    About the role

    As a News Editor, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing the news content production process. You will lead a team of writers and journalists to deliver timely, accurate, and engaging news stories to the audience.

    Your role will involve researching, writing, editing, and proofreading news articles while ensuring adherence to journalistic standards. You will collaborate closely with various stakeholders to develop and execute content strategies that align with editorial goals.

    You will be reporting to the Head of Content.

    Main Responsibilities

    Editorial Leadership:

    • Provide editorial guidance and leadership to the news team, ensuring high-quality content production.

    • Set and enforce editorial standards and guidelines to maintain consistency and accuracy across all news articles.

    • Collaborate with senior management to develop and implement content strategies that align with the company's vision and objectives.

    • Stay updated with industry trends, news developments, and emerging topics to identify potential story ideas and content opportunities.

    News Content Management:

    • Manage a team of journalists, assigning and reviewing their work, providing feedback, and ensuring deadlines are met.

    • Edit and proofread news articles for grammar, style, clarity, and accuracy.

    • Fact-check and verify information provided in news stories to maintain credibility and reliability.

    • Ensure adherence to journalistic ethics, copyright laws, and compliance with company policies.

    Research and Writing:

    • Write and contribute original news articles, ensuring they are engaging, informative, and suitable for the target audience.

    • Develop compelling headlines, subheadings, and lead paragraphs to capture readers' attention.

    • Optimise content for search engines (SEO) and digital platforms to maximise reach and engagement.

    Collaboration and Coordination:

    • Collaborate with other departments, such as marketing and commercials, to coordinate news coverage with promotional activities and campaigns.

    • Work closely with the editorial team to plan and prioritise content initiatives, ensuring a consistent flow of news articles.

    • Liaise with external sources, industry experts, and stakeholders to gather information and insights for news stories.

    Performance Analysis:

    • Monitor and analyse key performance indicators (KPIs) for news content, such as readership, engagement metrics, and feedback.

    • Use data-driven insights to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to increase readership and audience engagement.

    Preferred Experience

    This role is vital to the development of our clients strategy, and a number of disciplines are required to ensure its success, the candidate would ideally:

    • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).

    • Proven experience as a news editor or in a similar editorial role.

    • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with a keen eye for detail.

    • Strong knowledge of journalistic ethics, standards, and best practices.

    • Proficiency in researching and staying up-to-date with industry news and developments.

    • Familiarity with digital publishing platforms, SEO principles, and content management systems.

    • Ability to manage and motivate a team, providing clear direction and constructive feedback.

    • Outstanding communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

    • Strong organisational and multitasking abilities, with a commitment to meeting deadlines.
