  • Sports Editor-Rapid City, SD The Rapid City Journal in the Black Hills of western South Dakota is looking to hire an enthusiastic sports editor to run a department covering high school, college, and semi-professional sports. This position will work with the sports team daily and will manage the print production of the sports section. The editor in this role plans content and works with other staff, photographers/videographers and freelancers to cover and assign a wide array of sports and recreational activities in the community.  The sports editor is also directly involved in live coverage and producing photos, videos, and stories for local sporting events.    The successful candidate will be able to manage a fast-paced schedule, develop new talent and guide story ideas and production, have a commanding grasp of journalism, ethics, and storytelling.    Qualifications: Experience in sports reporting and journalism Editor experience preferred Strong leadership and communications skills A strong knowledge of AP Style, excellent grammar and spelling skills A bachelor’s degree in journalism (or related field)/equivalent experience Strong interpersonal skills and news sense Understanding of SEO and audience engagement tactics Ability to work on a deadline and turn stories quickly Reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license and insurance   The Journal covers the South Dakota sports scene west of the Missouri River, a geographical and cultural marker that runs through the middle of the state.
