Opportunity: Screw Machine Area Manager
Seastrom Manufacturing is seeking a dynamic leader with strong mechanical skills and technical experience. The Screw Machine Area Manager will lead a team of mechanical operators while planning tooling and layouts specific to Davenport multi-spindle screw machines, prioritizing jobs, monitoring production, quality, and personnel, keeping safety a priority while problem solving, and implementing improvements.
This position requires the ability to consistently follow processes and schedules independently, with periodic interaction with managers and others. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Help direct workers performing Screw Machine production tasks involving set-ups and operation within the department.
- Provide technical experience and troubleshoot machining functions or production concerns within the Screw Machine department.
- Verify the expected cycle time on the Job Order with the actual and takes appropriate action if necessary.
- Identify and recommend process improvements leading to cycle time reductions and improved reliability and safety.
- Ensure machine-specific maintenance schedules are followed.
- Handle problems and document daily production results.
- Perform daily review of production numbers relative to quoted functions.
- Help others stay focused on tasks.
- Ensure that employees are assisting and mentoring new hires.
- Ensure that safety is maintained as a priority.
- Answer questions and give directions as necessary.
- Prioritize jobs. Utilize personnel to assist in areas of need.
- Document, provide problem-solving, and improve techniques in production.
- Setup and operate equipment as necessary.
- Develop team structure.
- Maintain production schedules.
- Assist with planning and assignment of work.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Minimum of 2 years prior Davenport/screw machine Setup Operator experience required.
- Associate’s degree/Technical certificate or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Previous leadership and/or supervisory experience required.
- The ability to read, write and speak the English language with comprehension skills sufficient to understand safety standards and job performance expectations.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to interpret instructions which may be furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; use hands to feel, handle, or grab; reach, pull, push, and lift with hands and arms; walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and reach. Some sitting is required.
- The employee is frequently required to lift and/or move 10 pounds and rarely lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to wear steel-toe shoes/boots for 8 hours a day, and other personal protective equipment such as hearing protection and safety glasses while on the floor.
