General Job Description
Reporting to the President, the Engineering Manager will manage all aspects of design for manufacturability for customer products. The Engineering Manager is responsible for ensuring that all customer designs are formatted to a consistent level that is compatible with the organizations ERP and Production capabilities. This may include working directly with customer engineering groups to provide feedback on machine capabilities vs design and to look for methods of simplifying production methods to reduce cost and increase production velocity. The Engineering Manager will also provide oversight for technical challenges encountered by the front line supervisors and will regularly interface with the Production Manager on key aspects of production job fabrication. Ensure that estimating, purchasing, and quality group efforts are aligned in support of key metrics and production efforts.
Essential Duties
- Must be highly proficient in SolidWorks, CADCAM, drafting and process engineering.
- Must be highly proficient at using ERP systems to understand production steps to manufacture a wide range of products while addressing potential bottlenecks, and develop strategies to overcome issues.
- Provide support for sales, purchasing, QA, estimating, and production groups to ensure customer satisfaction on all orders.
- Analyze and specify required tooling to achieve production, cost, and delivery metrics.
- Provide detailed support to production teams to include supplemental drawings, fixturing, verbal guidance, and detailed work instructions.
- Provide feedback to estimating and sales on potential complications to jobs.
- Review and create month end customer logs for hours spent on projects.
- Review and implement process improvements for higher quality or faster throughput.
- Ability to create and manage spreadsheets.
- Must be proficient in writing and editing sheet metal machine programming such as laser and punch software required.
-Prior experience with Lean Manufacturing or 5S principals desirable.
Work Environment
Primarily in an office environment, this job can also operate in multiple production environments. Duties may be performed in office, on production floor, in presence of welding and stamping machines, powder and painting environments, or outside. Exposure to hot, cold, and ambient temperatures routine.
Education/Experience
Engineering degree, Batchlor of Science, with relevant manufacturing experience in precision machining and sheet metal fabrication.
