    Hiring Range:                          $41,600 annually ($20.00 per hour) - $46,220 annually ($22.22 per hour)


    Job Summary

    Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Community Services, supports the parks and recreation web and social media pages and the development of the quarterly ‘Live & Play’ publication. Must be available to work weekdays, weekends, and holidays for event coverage. The position works 40 hours per week, with occasional overtime. This position is responsible for the designated program area.  The position has some supervisory, limited budgetary responsibilities, and ongoing public engagement responsibilities.

    Essential Job Functions:

    1. Ensure brand consistency to define the City’s voice online and offline.
    2. Collaborates with City staff on overall digital strategy, including updating website content as needed.
    3. Create actionable plans to grow and maintain followers through popular social media platforms.
    4. Works closely with the Marketing and Communication Division to collaborate on content, stay up-to-date on marketing and communication best practices, and contribute to and follow the organizational Strategic Communication Plan.
    5. Creates and assists with the production of City publications as requested.
    6. Provides graphical design and photography support.
    7. Assists with the management of social media accounts.
    8. Arrives at work on time and works assigned schedule.
    9. Prepares and presents reports as needed.
    10. Coordinates email marketing.
    11. Serves as “manager on duty” at the Hurst Recreation Center on a rotational basis.
    12. Attends meetings and events as needed, including some outside regular work schedules.
    13. Adheres to Hurst’s Code of Ideals and The Hurst Way. Fosters positive employee relations and employee morale on a City-wide basis.                                                                   
    14. Performs related duties as directed when such duties are logical and appropriate.  
    15. Regular and timely attendance are required for this position.
    16. Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers and others in the course of daily work.

    Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

    • Perform multiple tasks in an active environment, use good judgment, and take the initiative.
    • Ability to be a self-starter and work with minimal supervision at times.
    • Skilled in communicating with the public to quickly and accurately dispense information orally, in writing, with City personnel and the public, sometimes under stressful conditions. 
    • Ability to create creative content and graphics for web pages and social media platforms.
    • Ability to assist facility participants promptly and professionally.   
    • Knowledge of Rec Trac, or ability to learn.
    • Knowledge of current social media trends and the ability to adapt as trends evolve.
    • Punctual, responsible, dependable, and professional; working effectively in a public environment.
    • Have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 products and standard office equipment.
    • Has excellent leadership skills and can motivate individuals through positive reinforcement. Advanced skills in establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships with peers, subordinates, supervisors, and visitors.
    • Skilled in public/employee relations and problem-solving.
    • Comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.
    • Ability to sit for extended periods when performing administrative duties.
    • Ability to stand, bend, squat, kneel, push, pull, and stop while assisting with programs or events.
    • Most work is performed indoors; when outdoors, subject to extreme heat and sun. 
    • Work may be subject to time pressures, emergencies, and frequent changes to tasks, working closely with others as part of a team, performing multiple tasks simultaneously, and dealing with difficult persons.

    Minimum Education, Certification, and Experience Requirements:

    • Associate’s degree in marketing, graphic design, or other media-related degree and two years of experience in a related marketing field. 
    • A bachelor’s degree in public relations, graphic design, or a related field is preferred. 
    • Local government experience preferred. 
    • Must have regular and punctual attendance, reliable transportation, and flexibility to work overtime as required.
    • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
    • Must have a valid Texas driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.

    While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to disagreeable environmental factors.
