JOB SUMMARYPerform diversified manual and mechanical duties and complex repairs and maintenance to printing and converting machinery. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and control problems, performing maintenance, machining and fabrication of parts, and other similar duties pertaining to machine maintenance.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Follow all established safety rules and regulations and utilize required safety equipment. Report defective equipment or unsafe conditions to the appropriate personnel.
- Where the appropriate PPE for the task and abide by the dress code accordingly to each facility.
- Adhered to all lockout/tagout procedures and protocol.
- Perform mechanical repairs/maintenance of a variety of printing and converting machinery. Troubleshoot mechanical problems as reported by operators. Determine the nature of the problems and the appropriate corrective action to minimize machine down time. Perform complex repairs to machinery such as disassembly and replacements of print deck components, gear changes, optical scanner operation, roll changes, etc. Perform repairs to hydraulic, pneumatic, and/or dryer systems. Replace broken or worn components in machines.
- Perform welding and machining of parts and components to specified tolerances and as required to effect repairs. Fabricate various components, machine guards, brackets, and other items for machinery. Develop preventative maintenance procedures to keep all machinery in good operating condition.
- Perform routine electrical and/or electronic repairs to machinery. Troubleshoot the situation and take the required corrective action such as replacing components, rewiring, etc. Make arrangements with electrical contractor for major repair work.
- Provide guidance and direction to less experienced mechanics on complex repair and maintenance operations. Direct mechanics with disassembly of machinery, changing parts, reassembly, etc. Provide advice and/or guidance in maintenance and repair functions.
- Maintain inventory of spare parts and supplies for machinery. Place orders with vendors as required.
- Maintain work area in a clean and orderly condition.
- Perform other similar duties as required by responsibility or necessity, or as requested by supervisor.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES- Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills. Ability to clarify, explain, and convey various methods of maintenance procedures.
- Practical experience and knowledge of electricity, control (industrial process), and mechanics.
- Ability to performance proactive maintenance on machines, diagnosis problems, and implement corrective action to return machine to full processing capacity.
- Visual acuity to prints and plans, machine details.
- Ability to read and understand manuals, policies, and procedures. This would include, but not limited to, electrical, pneumatic hydraulic, control, and mechanical drawings.
- Proficiency with using hand and power tools.
- Ability to work around machinery with moving parts, loud noise, and sometimes in awkward positions while climbing, reaching, and maintaining equipment.
- Intermediate computer skills
- PLC knowledge
- You must provide your own hand tools.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSMust have at least two years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment and working knowledge with controls, PLCs, and pneumatics.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS- Intermittently on feet for approx. 8-12 hours daily on concrete floors
- Occasional lifting of various parts or materials in repairing machinery up to approx. 50 lbs.
- Verbal communication, visual acuity to prints and plans, manual coordination, and dexterity in the use of various hand and power tools
- Physical ability to climb and work on or around machinery
- Visual acuity to written material
- Walking, squatting, crouching, turning, twisting, stretching, climbing steps, grabbing, pulling, pushing, repetitive movement & bending, all may include awkward positions.
