Materials Control Manager manages daily operations and planning to optimize the flow of raw materials, supplies, and equipment from initial procurement to the final disposition and fulfill material requirements for volume, cost, and scheduling business operations. Uses material requirement plans to ensure the required flow of materials is maintained. Being a Materials Control Manager coordinates procurement, warehouse, and distribution operations to improve operational efficiencies and workflows crucial to the flow of materials. Monitors operations and troubleshoots and resolves operational roadblocks. Additionally, Materials Control Manager requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Materials Control Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions.     SUMMARY

    Directs and coordinates activities of Receiving and Material Handling by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    • Provides day-to-day guidance and leadership to Material Handling leaders to help them effectively plan work, direct team activities, establish priorities and resolve complex problem situations
    • Ensures subordinate leaders and their employees receive appropriate training/coaching to meet and exceed job expectations. Identifies, recruits, and develops employees as future leaders
    • Monitors material transfers between PGT sites for operational efficiency and inventory DMR disposition.
    • Establishes work-measurement program, metrics, and key performance indicators.
    • Motivates and encourages all team members to actively participate in 5S initiatives, achieving/sustaining world class levels. Develops all team members and provides the proper training and tools to achieve quality at the source across the product line(s).
    • Coaches and encourages active participation by all team members in problem solving activities helping them develop their skills utilizing Lean tools
    • Evaluates team and individual performance
    • Researches and deploys short- and long-term improvements to improve safety and efficiency
    • Researches and helps develop short- and long-term improvements to material handling processes to maximize efficiency, improve throughput and maintain safety.
    • Determines resource needs across shifts and plants
    • Provides positive and negative feedback to employees verbally and in writing
    • Ensures that work processes are implemented uniformly across shifts and plants
    • Anticipates future needs to support growth and determines resource and capital support requirements
    • Actively drives and ensures all team members are engaged and focused on creating a safe work environment
    • Establishes material handling and quality control standards and develops and administers cost controls to effectively produce products
    • Monitors achievement of profitability goals as set by leader
    • Provides material handling decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.
    • Improve the operational systems, processes, and policies in support of PGT’s mission - specifically, support better management reporting, information flow and management, business process and organizational planning.
    • Develops and implements policies and procedures to meet customer needs and corporate objectives regarding product service.
    • Participates in meetings with key personnel to review, discuss and refine the material flow
    • Identifies specific operator knowledge/skill requirements and communicates recruitment and training needs to Human Resources and Workforce Development.
    • Helps develop or revise standard operational and working practices and verifies that subordinate leaders require worker compliance with standards.
    • Leads/facilitates continuous improvement activities to drive improvement in safety, quality, delivery and cost through Kaizen and other world class techniques
    • Ensures proper support/coordination of line trials and production training including start-up and debug.
    • Participates in post-project evaluation of new product introductions.
    • Plans material operations, ensuring priorities, sequences and operational schedules for manufacturing products in accordance with company practices.
    • Reviews production and operating reports to help determine material handling constraints and creates plan to improve
    • Confers with subordinate leaders and co-workers in cross functional leadership
    • Provides positive and negative feedback to employees verbally and in writing. Documents feedback through Confirmation of Conversations (COC).
    • Conducts or participates in annual performance reviews for employees

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
    Leads salaried leaders, hourly leaders, and hourly employees

    QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
    • Bachelor's degree required
    • Supply Chain/Logistics Certifications preferred (Certification by National Association of Purchasing Management and/or C.P.M. Certification (through Institute for Supply Management) or APICS Certification, CLA, CLT)
    • Six to ten years of experience in receiving, shipping, or warehouse operations with at least five years of experience as a leader
    • Proficient in MS Office (Word/Excel)
    • Strategic planner with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment, and strong operational focus
    • An energetic, forward thinking, and creative individual with high ethical standards and an appropriate professional image
    • Experience in lean manufacturing and world class manufacturing best practices
    • Ability to analyze data and develop data-based solutions.
    • Must be able to work without supervision and manage under stress to meet deadlines.
    • Budget development and oversight experience desirable

    • Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal skills to communicate effectively at all levels of the Company.
