Materials Director directs operations and planning to optimize the flow of raw materials, supplies, and equipment from initial procurement to the final disposition and fulfill material requirements for volume, cost, and scheduling business operations. Estimates material requirements using data and analysis of orders, inventory levels, economic trends, and supplier sources to develop long-range plans to ensure the required flow of materials. Being a Materials Director coordinates procurement, warehouse, and distribution operations to improve operational efficiencies and workflows crucial to the flow of materials. Requires a bachelor's degree. Additionally, Materials Director typically reports to a director. The Materials Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Materials Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     Candidates must be located within an hour's driving distance of a major airport in the Western region. 

    Our Client, an industry leader in packaging solutions, is seeking a Director of Sales for our Materials Division. In cooperation with customer service and sales administration teams, the Sales Director will develop systems, processes, procedures, and goal-oriented business plans to provide leadership and direction to the sales force throughout the Western region.

    This position provides daily support to Regional Sales Managers while ensuring close cooperation with other sales teams. Includes application identification, customer development, closing of all business opportunities, and assuring the satisfaction of these customers in their region. Expected to work with and provide direction to both internal and external marketing functions. Recommend adjustments to the organization, product changes, and/or services to meet the customer’s expectations.

    This position will travel in excess of 50% with the remainder of the time being spent working remotely to ensure proper preparation and follow-up. Domestic and international travel is required. 

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    1. Develop and implement strategic sales and marketing plans, as well as forecasts to achieve corporate objectives for products and services. Participate in the establishment of corporate goals.

    2. Develop and manage sales/marketing operating budgets.

    3. Develop and recommend product positioning, packaging, and pricing strategy to produce the highest possible long-term market share.

    4. Achieve satisfactory profit/loss ratio and market share in relation to pre-set standards and industry and economic trends.

    5. Ensure effective control of marketing results, and take corrective action to guarantee that achievement of marketing objectives falls within designated. budgets.

    6. Oversee and evaluate market research and adjust marketing strategy to meet changing market and competitive conditions.

    7. Monitor and report on competitor products, and sales and marketing activities.

    8. Participate in the planning and execution of industry-related trade shows.

    9. Maintain professional and collaborative relationships with international colleagues.

    10. Establish and maintain relationships with industry influencers and key strategic partners.

    11. Establish and maintain a consistent corporate image throughout all product lines, promotional materials, and events.

    12. Direct sales forecasting activities and set performance goals accordingly.

    13. Represent the organization at trade association meetings to promote products and the company.

    14. Engage with clients, assisting the sales team with maintaining relationships, and negotiating and closing deals.

    15. Serve as liaison between Sales and other departments. 

    16. Analyze and control expenditures of the division to conform to budgetary requirements.

    17. Assist other departments within the organization to prepare manuals and technical publications.

    18. Prepare periodic sales reports showing sales volume, potential sales, and areas of proposed client base expansion.

    19. Review and analyze sales performance against goals to evaluate the effectiveness.

    20. Manage and direct staff including recruitment, selection, and development to achieve goals and objectives.

    21. Define, establish, and enhance the roles, goals, and responsibilities for all associates within the department. Ensure that all associates are effectively trained, and skill sets match performance requirements. Continually assess goals and progress towards goals on both individual and team levels.

    Education/Experience:

    Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Sales & Marketing, or related field and five years of industry-related experience with progressive managerial responsibilities.

    Certificates and Licenses:

    Current valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a passport for travel as required by position.

    Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises a team. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include hiring and training associates; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; applying recognition and discipline as appropriate; addressing complaints and resolving problems; and developing associates through coaching, counseling, and mentoring. Ensures effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
