    What to Expect
    The purpose of the Tesla Materials Engineering organization is to facilitate the Tesla mission of accelerating the world to sustainable energy via identification, development and insertion of advanced materials and processes while enabling other Tesla Engineering and Manufacturing advancements. The team is seeking a Materials Design and Development engineer to lead the design of novel alloys.
    What You'll Do
    • Subject matter expert for integrated computational materials engineering (ICME) of materials at Tesla
    • Collaboration with design engineering on optimized selection of ideal materials and processes for purpose
    • Develop new materials, processing, characterization, validation, and specifications for current and future products when optimized solution does not exist
    • Materials engineering support to drive issue resolution and cost savings
    • Materials laboratory testing as-needed
    What You'll Bring
    • Bachelor's Degree in Materials Engineering, with a strong focus on Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME), or equivalent
    • Practical experience working with material design and development using computational tools such as Calculation of Phase Diagrams (CALPHAD), density functional theory (DFT) and/or phase field methods
    • Deep knowledge of process-structure-property relationships and manufacturing processes as it relates to computational tools
    • Practical experience developing physics-based models to predict material properties and performance based upon processing and microstructure
    • Strong knowledge in physical metallurgy, mechanical behavior of materials, thermodynamics, and phase transformations
    • Experience in scale-up of material design prototypes to full-scale production
    • Experience with robust manufacturing quality systems and qualification processes (PFMEA, lean manufacturing)
    • Experience conducting material property testing and microstructural characterization
