The Role:
- Drive advancements in welding technologies.
- Lead verification, qualification, and optimization of welded joints.
- Develop non-destructive welding test processes and certification plans in compliance with appropriate standards and codes at the coupon and assembly level.
- Author material and process standards for different welding techniques (spot welding, laser welding, GMAW, FSW, etc.).
- Troubleshoot, root cause, and implement sustainable corrective actions.
- Provide guidance to design engineering and manufacturing to ensure the implementation of proper joining technologies and weld quality.
- Coordinate CAE and physical validation testing of welds.
Qualifications:
- Min. 5 years of experience as a welding engineer (including practical experience in product design and development).
- Ability to relate process-structure-property relationships in metallic materials to weld parameters and quality.
- A proven track record in state-of-the-art structural joining solutions for automotive body-in-white.
- Working knowledge of structural welding methods and practices.
- In-depth understanding of property evaluations using a first principles approach.
- Hands-on experience with standard material laboratory equipment and welding test procedures.
Education:
- BS/MS in Welding/Materials Engineering or other relevant fields.
Preferred:
- PhD in Welding/Materials Engineering.
- Experience with Catia V5/V6 is preferred but not essential.
