What to ExpectWhat You'll DoThe purpose of the Tesla Materials Engineering organization is to facilitate the Tesla mission of accelerating the world to sustainable energy via identification, development and insertion of advanced materials and processes while supporting other Tesla Engineering and Manufacturing functions with materials expertise. The team is seeking a Materials Engineer to lead the selection, application, and design of electromagnetic materials.
What You'll Bring- Subject matter expert for electromagnetic properties of materials at Tesla
- Develop new materials and processing for current and future products
- Qualification of different electromagnetic materials
- Materials engineering support to drive issue resolution and cost savings
- Materials laboratory testing as needed
- Author material and process standards
- Materials Engineering degree with a strong focus on integrated computational materials engineering (ICME), or equivalent. Metallurgical Engineering focus and advanced degrees are preferred
- Practical experience working with material design and development using computational tools such as CALPHAD and phase field methods
- Practical experience developing physics-based models to predict material properties and performance based upon processing and microstructure
- Experience with robust manufacturing quality systems and qualification processes (PFMEA, lean manufacturing)
- Experience conducting and understanding mechanical and electromagnetic property testing and microstructural characterization
- Knowledge of both hard and soft magnets, applications in motors, and applications in power electronics is preferred

Expected Compensation$84,000 - $276,000/annual salary cash and stock awards benefits

The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
