Materials Handling Supervisor supervises and coordinates the work of employees who load and unload material within a warehouse or storage facility. Processes orders from requisitions and dispenses items from stock. Being a Materials Handling Supervisor oversees the utilization of hand trucks, forklifts, hoists, conveyors, or other handling equipment to move material to and from aircraft, trucks or trains and within the storage facility. Prepares work schedules, assigns work, and oversees the work product. Additionally, Materials Handling Supervisor ensures procedures are according to specifications and that resources are used effectively and work schedules and targets are met. May assist in inventory of stock and stock rotation. Enters information into a computerized system to maintain up-to-date stock records, retrieve stored data, or respond to inquiries about inventory levels or delivery schedules. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. Job Summary:
- Develop and implement materials management strategies to optimize inventory levels and ensure timely availability of materials for production.
- Develop an understanding of our raw material needs, maintain a strong working relationship with at least two suppliers for each major raw material.
- Coordinate with suppliers to procure materials and negotiate favorable terms and pricing
- Oversee the receiving, inspection, and storage of materials.
- Implement inventory control measures to minimize stockouts and excess inventory.
- Utilize MRP systems to track material availability and plan purchases accordingly.
- Monitor supplier performance and address any issues or concerns.
- Collaborate with production teams to ensure materials are available for fabrication or assembly processes.
- Maintain accurate records of inventory levels, transactions, and supplier information.
- Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in materials management.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Must be proficient with MS Excel
- Prior experience or ability to learn MRP module of the ERP system Sage
- Good organizational skills and both written and oral communication.
