Materials Handling Supervisor supervises and coordinates the work of employees who load and unload material within a warehouse or storage facility. Processes orders from requisitions and dispenses items from stock. Being a Materials Handling Supervisor oversees the utilization of hand trucks, forklifts, hoists, conveyors, or other handling equipment to move material to and from aircraft, trucks or trains and within the storage facility. Prepares work schedules, assigns work, and oversees the work product. Additionally, Materials Handling Supervisor ensures procedures are according to specifications and that resources are used effectively and work schedules and targets are met. May assist in inventory of stock and stock rotation. Enters information into a computerized system to maintain up-to-date stock records, retrieve stored data, or respond to inquiries about inventory levels or delivery schedules. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Materials Handling Supervisor supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. Thorough knowledge of functional area under supervision. Description
Under U.S. Coast Guard regulations, the Tankerman serves as the person-in-charge of the vessel for cargo transfer operations involving tank barges.
Transfers involve all types of liquids including oils and refined products, chemicals, and liquified gases. Tankermen are fully responsible for the transfer include vessel mooring, pre- transfer inspection, opening and closing valves to safely move the cargo on or off the barge, completing required paperwork, and communicating with dock facility personnel.
Tankerman work on 24-hour call and without direct supervision.
Applicants must hold a tankerman's document issued by the Coast Guard, and be able to demonstrate solid experience, integrity, a strong work ethic, a commitment to excellence, and the ability to sustain incident-free operations.
