Materials Handling Supervisor supervises and coordinates the work of employees who load and unload material within a warehouse or storage facility. Processes orders from requisitions and dispenses items from stock. Being a Materials Handling Supervisor oversees the utilization of hand trucks, forklifts, hoists, conveyors, or other handling equipment to move material to and from aircraft, trucks or trains and within the storage facility. Prepares work schedules, assigns work, and oversees the work product. Additionally, Materials Handling Supervisor ensures procedures are according to specifications and that resources are used effectively and work schedules and targets are met. May assist in inventory of stock and stock rotation. Enters information into a computerized system to maintain up-to-date stock records, retrieve stored data, or respond to inquiries about inventory levels or delivery schedules. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Materials Handling Supervisor supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to stretch, reach, bend, stoop, and maintain a crouching position. Drivers climb in and out of the truck approximately 50 times per day. The seat bottom is 50 inches above the ground. The first step is two feet above the ground, and the second is one foot higher. Three-point contact must be practiced.
Drivers must use manipulative and coordination skills to operate an oversized steering wheel and coordinate hand and foot movement to shift manual transmission gears. The clutch requires approximately 60 lbs of force to depress with the left leg dozens of times daily.
Must be able to ascend the ladder on the back of the truck and carry items weighing 8 to 32 lbs.
Must be able to pull down the main chute and attach two extension chutes. 45 lbs of pressure is needed to release the retention straps on extension chutes in their stowed location. Extension chutes weigh 60 lbs and must be lifted from the ground to the shoulder to return it to position.
Must safely walk on uneven, muddy, or icy ground at job sites.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
