Job Summary:
The Material Manager is responsible for overseeing the company’s entire procurement process, including material buys, receiving materials, storing materials, inventory controls, scheduling, and logistics (internal and external). The position will also function as our ERP Systems (PLEX) lead with respect to the materials, purchasing and scheduling functions. This position will work closely with other department leads to ensure we have the most streamlined procurement process needed to meet the customer orders. Our organization is metric driven, so a strong grasp of how to measure daily/weekly/monthly performance is necessary.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Manage 6-8 material team members.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Develops and assures compliance with IATF requirements.
- Develops contingency plan for alternate sourcing.
- Purchase raw materials according to project specifications.
- Negotiate purchasing agreements with vendors for best price, best delivery.
- Oversee procedure for receiving and storing materials allowing for optimum inventory levels and ensuring on-time deliveries.
- Optimized scheduling and planning.
- Monitors and reports inbound and outbound premium freight.
- Responsible for continuing programs of exploration for new materials, suppliers, and processes to achieve the best possible quality, reliability, prices, continuity, and delivery.
- Establishes procedures and supervises the annual physical inventory and weekly cycle counts
- Supervise, evaluate, and coach staff members.
- Interfaces with production supervisors on the planning and forecasting of customer orders to meet shipments.
- Maintain relationships and negotiate with suppliers.
- Purchase supplies and materials according to specifications.
- Participate in annual budgeting of orders and material costs.
- Ensures that the company standard practices and procedures are followed in connection with all materials department functions.
- Assistant Buyer or MRO Buyer.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in logistics or a related field.
- 3 years' experience in a logistics management role or related experience
- Six to ten years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- PLEX ERP system experience.
- OEM and/or Tier 1 experience.
- Experience with supply chain and inventory management systems
- Experience developing, reporting, tracking metrics
- Working knowledge of MRP & ERP Systems to effectively manage production
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
