Materials Manager manages the raw material planning processes to ensure an organization operates efficiently. Ensures raw materials are available to meet designated production schedules. Being a Materials Manager utilizes MRP system to manage material planning from purchasing, processing, warehousing, and production. Develops forecasts for raw material needs by considering purchases, production rates, and maintenance schedules. Additionally, Materials Manager coordinates with stakeholders in purchasing and inventory control when adjustments are needed and troubleshoots complex issues as necessary. Maintains supplier relationships and may negotiate lead times. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Materials Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Materials Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Description

    OVERVIEW:
    The Materials Manager oversees the efficient management of daily material operations and ensures the proper handling and preservation of materials within various facilities. This position also provides leadership to increase value by driving efficiencies in the material movement process. The Materials Manager ensures all activities are in keeping with the ISO 9001:2015 standards. The ideal candidate will have prior warehousing knowledge as well as excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

     


    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Control inventory levels by conducting physical counts ensuring material is properly transacted in the ERP system.
    • Plan and organize daily operations and activities, including receipt, documentation, storage, safety, and equipment and supplies distribution.
    • Plan and implement streamlined layouts to maximize capacity and efficiency.
    • Oversight of equipment inspections and work order issuance for repair and/or requisitions for replacement.
    • Maintain and make incremental improvements to warehouse standards and procedures; advise of budget-related needs and assist in the bid process for various supplies as required.
    • Ensure labor resources are appropriately allocated to fulfill demands.
    • Recruit, orient, train, and develop team members.
    • Develop and maintain KPIs to monitor performance and report to the company.
    • Maintain collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders and suppliers to support company QMS values.
    • Support a culture of safety and 7S standards.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications


    DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelor's degree preferred.
    • 5 years minimum warehouse or distribution experience in a leadership role required.
    • Experience with material control within a warehouse environment is required.
    • Experience working in a high volume, fast-paced warehouse within a manufacturing environment preferred.
    • Solid quantitative and analytical skills.
    • Possesses solid interpersonal skills working amongst a cross-functioning team.
    • Ability to work effectively in a team setting and support change management within an organization
    • Familiar with Just-in-Time (JIT) Inventory and Material Requirements Planning (MRP).
    • Extensive experience working within an ERP and/or MRP system is required. Microsoft Dynamics AX experience is a plus.

     

     

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:
    The Materials Manager can expect their time will be split equally between the manufacturing warehouse environment and in an office environment. This position will be regularly exposed to inclement weather: cold, heat, and humidity. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Frequently exposed to vibrations, moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, machines, dust, and chemicals. This position will work in a fast-paced environment with frequently changing priorities. The office is an open and collaborative space where work is performed both independently and with the team.

     

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Ability to verbally communicate: convey detailed and accurate instructions and information.
    • Ability to hear with or without correction to receive and interpret detailed information.
    • Required to sit at a desk workstation for long periods.
    • Push, pull, lift, and carry at least 10 pounds.
    • Frequently required to walk and stand. This position may involve infrequent site visits which will require the ability to walk on uneven surfaces, climb stairs, and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
    • Required to have visual acuity with or without correction to read contract documents, analyze data, view a computer monitor, and proofread documents to identify errors.
    • Required to use fingers and hands: type using a computer keyboard, handle, feel, and reach.
    • May occasionally be required to stoop, kneel, and crouch.

     

     

    REPORTING STRUCTURE:
    This position reports directly to the Inventory Manager.

    Construction Innovations facilities and offices are located in Sacramento, CA, and Mather, CA.

     


    COMPENSATION:

    A reasonable estimate of the current salary range for this position is $78,250.00 - $122,250.00. The actual amount offered within this range will depend on a variety of factors including geography, skills and abilities, education, experience, and other relevant job-related factors.  It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role, and compensation decisions depend on each case's facts and circumstances.
