Maternity Services Director is responsible for the maternity unit and all sub-unit operations and staffing. Coordinates activities related to labor, delivery, recovery, postpartum, and the baby nursery. Being a Maternity Services Director manages the departments operating budget and measures performance using standards established by the hospital. May direct community outreach programs to deliver women's health information and education. Additionally, Maternity Services Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. Requires registered nurse (RN). The Maternity Services Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.   • Access Services Inc., a staffing firm in Charlotte, NC is looking for an RN to work with one of our clients in the Public Health sector. This is a great opportunity for an entry level Registered Nurse in Gastonia, NC or surrounding areas to provide high-quality care to maternity unit patients.

    Responsibilities:

    • Clinic Duties: Utilizes the Nursing Process to assess, interview, triage, educate and implement the plan of care. Examples: complete vital signs, interviews, and patient / family education. Administers immunizations as per CDC guidelines and documents in NCIR. Assists with procedures, NSTs and provides treatments per clinic guidelines. Reviews encounter accuracy.
    • Triage: Follow-up with patient calls, assess problems, provide medical advice per Standing Order, assess and triage walk-in patients per specific clinic triage protocols.
    • Referrals: complete pre-authorization process, make appointments for needed services as per orders, contact patient / parents via phone or mail to advise of recommended plan of care, document in patient record per policy. Completes follow-up to assure that plan of care completed, which may include home visits.
    • Assigned Follow-Up: Nursing team members will be assigned specific tasks by program supervisor to assure that contract addenda requirements and clinic specific needs are met. Examples: follow-up of missed appointments, positive pregnancy tests, follow-up of positive lab results, etc. Contact attempts and closing of patients to follow-up will be completed per policy.
    • Specific follow-up at this time is related to scheduling of New OB patients and receipt of transfer records and entering of lab results as indicated from transfer records. Patient tracking activities as assigned b program supervisor. Other daily follow-up is as assigned.
    • Quality Assurance / Quality Improvement: Participates in program audits. Collaborates and communicates with co-workers, medical providers, supervisor, PHS Management, and other departments to ensure best practices within the department. Provides input and feedback to the supervisor regarding policies and procedures and clinic operations.
    • Education: Participates in yearly competence activities for PHS Division staff. Participates in in-services, trainings and meetings. Serves as a preceptor to new staff. Completes required competencies per NC Board of Nursing to ensure compliance with nursing licensure. Participates as an instructor as trained: Birthing Class, Centering, CPR, etc.
    • Disaster Response: Assists the community during emergencies such as natural disasters or bio-terrorism events by delivering services in the field as needed. Participates in staffing emergency shelter, administering vaccinations to the community and providing nursing care to assure community safety.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing which included a Public Health Rotation; OR graduation from an accredited school of nursing and one (1) year of professional nursing OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Current State of North Carolina RN License; Valid CPR Certification; Valid vehicle operator's license
