Maternity Services Director is responsible for the maternity unit and all sub-unit operations and staffing. Coordinates activities related to labor, delivery, recovery, postpartum, and the baby nursery. Being a Maternity Services Director manages the departments operating budget and measures performance using standards established by the hospital. May direct community outreach programs to deliver women's health information and education. Additionally, Maternity Services Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. Requires registered nurse (RN). JOB SUMMARY: Provides direct and indirect care in the acute care setting.
Provides care that reflects initiative, flexibility, and responsibility. Determines priorities
of care based on physical and psychosocial needs. Communicates with
physicians/nurse manager/co-workers, as appropriate, about changes in patient's
status, symptomatology, and results of diagnostic studies. Is able to respond quickly
and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Is able to perform
general nursing duties in all departments with appropriate supervision.
SUPERVISES: Accountable for directing and supervising patient care and nursing
tasks performed by the Nurse Aide I, Nurse Aide II, Unit Secretary, Licensed Practical
Nurse, Operating Room Techs, Hospital Volunteers, and other support personnel.
Directs and supervises registered nurses when assuming the rule of unit
coordinator/charge nurse/team leader or preceptor.
QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge and Skills: Graduate of approved school of nursing;
Bachelor of Science in nursing preferred, Associate Degree or Diploma in nursing
required. Current licensure as Registered Nurse in
required; specialty certification preferred. Ability to read and communicate effectively in
English required. Additional languages preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Six months to one year's experience as an RN required. Six plus
months or Labor and Delivery experience preferred; basic computer knowledge
preferred.
