Mechanical Designer designs and creates layouts and documentation for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and other mechanical building systems that meet project and technical specifications. Uses computer-aided design (CAD) and other specialized software tools to generate detailed layout plans, schematics, and drawings for mechanical systems. Being a Mechanical Designer maintains accurate and complete change and version control on all design files, documents, and drawings. Incorporates best practices to address design space constraints and ensure compliance with industry standards, safety requirements, and building codes. Additionally, Mechanical Designer collaborates with engineers and other project members. May conduct or participate in site visits to inspect installations or troubleshoot problems. May require an associate degree in mechanical design, drafting or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Mechanical Designer works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. POSITION SUMMARY
This is an entry level position that is normally regarded as a continuing portion of an engineer’s initial work experience, training, and development. Projects of limited scope and complexity using a variety of standard engineering methods and techniques in solving problems will be assigned. The engineer will assist more senior level engineers in carrying out technical tasks requiring accuracy in calculations, completeness of data and adherence to prescribed analysis, design, or computation methods.
Work is closely managed and reviewed for accuracy and adequacy. Follows specific, outlined, and detailed directions.
Provides resolution to problems that are readily identifiable with limited scope and are resolved in accordance with standard practices, procedures, applications, or routines.
Problem/ Task resolution timeframe: The majority of tasks typically take one to two days to resolve.
Contacts are primarily with direct supervisor and others in group or department to give and receive information.
