Mechanical Designer designs and creates layouts and documentation for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and other mechanical building systems that meet project and technical specifications. Uses computer-aided design (CAD) and other specialized software tools to generate detailed layout plans, schematics, and drawings for mechanical systems. Being a Mechanical Designer maintains accurate and complete change and version control on all design files, documents, and drawings. Incorporates best practices to address design space constraints and ensure compliance with industry standards, safety requirements, and building codes. Additionally, Mechanical Designer collaborates with engineers and other project members. May conduct or participate in site visits to inspect installations or troubleshoot problems. May require an associate degree in mechanical design, drafting or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Mechanical Designer works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Terranova Technologies is currently seeking a Civil/Structural or Mechanical Designer with engineering/design, construction, operations, and/or maintenance experience. Following is a general description of the responsibilities and qualifications required for this position.
DUTIES:
Create rough layouts or sketches, preliminary drawings, general arrangements, and/or detailed designs in accordance with project specifications (with respect to clearances and tolerances) required for engineering studies and/or field services.
Prepare plans and elevations of surface buildings, structural steel works, and concrete foundations for underground mine access and development infrastructure, including shafts, raise bore holes, crushing, conveying, hoisting, ventilating, water handling, concrete delivering, refrigerating, and power generating/distributing plants.
Research design criteria for infrastructure sizes, arrangements, and configurations.
Check drawings (occasional).
Work cooperatively with the design team lead, project engineers, and project manager to establish design criteria and drawing layouts.
Consult with site personnel, other departmental personnel, and outside sources to gain knowledge and expertise required to improve or revise designs.
Assist the Business Development group efforts to tender work by preparing quantity take-offs (occasional).
Mentor intermediate design staff.
