Mechanical Designer designs and creates layouts and documentation for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and other mechanical building systems that meet project and technical specifications. Uses computer-aided design (CAD) and other specialized software tools to generate detailed layout plans, schematics, and drawings for mechanical systems. Being a Mechanical Designer maintains accurate and complete change and version control on all design files, documents, and drawings. Incorporates best practices to address design space constraints and ensure compliance with industry standards, safety requirements, and building codes. Additionally, Mechanical Designer collaborates with engineers and other project members. May conduct or participate in site visits to inspect installations or troubleshoot problems. May require an associate degree in mechanical design, drafting or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Mechanical Designer works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Senior Mechanical Designer/Drafter

  • WiTricity is seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer/Drafter as a key member of our product team implementing our next generation Wireless Charging products to power the global deployment of Electric Vehicles.  We are seeking experienced, innovative, proactive candidates with a can-do attitude and passion for detailed design and drafting.  You will collaborate across various functions including: Global R&D, Product Ideation, and external ODM & manufacturing partners.  Working closely with mechanical engineers, you will be responsible for executing technical 3D designs along with full documentation from concept to product.

    You will contribute to key technical decisions, evaluate trade-offs, and create key technical performance requirements to ensure cost-effective, high performing products in various customer use cases from home to public charging.

    Responsibilities:
    • Contributing to multiple projects by supporting mechanical engineers in implementing ideas into 3D models based on design specifications provided.
    • Fully documenting designs in 2D including custom mechanical parts, COTS, and assembly drawings.
    • Work with Electrical Engineering team to fully implement electronics hardware into the 3D model including PCBAs, cables, etc.
    • Working knowledge of high volume tooling processes such as sheet metal stamping, die casting, plastic injection molding, etc.
    • Participates and contributes to design ideation sessions with multi-disciplinary team.
    • Prepare and maintain design documentation including the use of PDM and PLM tools.
    • Works within established timelines to meet project deadlines and prioritizes tasks accordingly.
    Requirements:
    • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Design preferred. A certificate in a relevant field of study will also be considered.
    • 7 years of experience in mechanical design of a high-volume consumer grade product.  This includes extensive experience with mechanical design tools such as SolidWorks or a similar CAD program.
    • Proficient in GD&T, ASME Y14.5, creating engineering drawings and manufacturing drawings.
    • Experience with DFMA, and fabrication technologies including injection molding, sheet metal, 3D printing, etc.
    • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills. 
    • Demonstrated ability to work cross functionally including with manufacturing, design, and industrial designers.  This includes collaboration with team member who are remotely location (e.g., North America, Europe, Asia).
    • Experience working within a smaller size tech company with reliance on external partners and ODMs.
    • Experience with consumer electronic or automotive products.
