Mechanical Designer designs and creates layouts and documentation for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and other mechanical building systems that meet project and technical specifications. Uses computer-aided design (CAD) and other specialized software tools to generate detailed layout plans, schematics, and drawings for mechanical systems. Being a Mechanical Designer maintains accurate and complete change and version control on all design files, documents, and drawings. Incorporates best practices to address design space constraints and ensure compliance with industry standards, safety requirements, and building codes. Additionally, Mechanical Designer collaborates with engineers and other project members. May conduct or participate in site visits to inspect installations or troubleshoot problems. May require an associate degree in mechanical design, drafting or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Mechanical Designer works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. What you’ll do:
· Assist with design projects from concept to design completion.
· Interpret and translate customer wishes into plans.
· Research and decide on materials sourcing.
· Develop customer idea and selection boards.
· Form a close working relationship with designers, decorators, architects, and constructors.
· Stay up to date with industry changes, trends, and best practices.
· Utilize BuilderTrend, Chief Architect, and Sketch-Up daily.
What you’ll need:
· At least two years of experience of decorating interior spaces in a professional setting.
· Expertise in layout, color, lighting, materials selection, etc.
· Strong proficiency in BuilderTrend, Chief Architect, and Sketch-Up.
· Excellent portfolio of previous work/educational projects.
· Natural talent and eye for design.
· Strong communication and presentation skills.
· Project management skills.
· BS degree in Interior Design or similar.
· Experience in residential building/renovation is a plus.
· Ability to multi-task, strong organizational skills, and attention to detail/quality.
· Creativity, flexibility, and strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with all levels of the organization, customers, and trade partners.
· Self-motivation with a strong sense of urgency and “whatever it takes” mentality.
