Mechanical Designer designs and creates layouts and documentation for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and other mechanical building systems that meet project and technical specifications. Uses computer-aided design (CAD) and other specialized software tools to generate detailed layout plans, schematics, and drawings for mechanical systems. Being a Mechanical Designer maintains accurate and complete change and version control on all design files, documents, and drawings. Incorporates best practices to address design space constraints and ensure compliance with industry standards, safety requirements, and building codes. Additionally, Mechanical Designer collaborates with engineers and other project members. May conduct or participate in site visits to inspect installations or troubleshoot problems. May require an associate degree in mechanical design, drafting or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Mechanical Designer works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job.     Prepare system schematics, P.C. Board schematics, and wiring diagrams to appropriate industry standards using marked up prints.

    SUMMARY

    Provides drafting support on new products, special products, product modifications and changes to standard product. This will include drawing activities (layout and detail) and component specification.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    1. Layout and design new products or modification to existing products using marked up prints and verbal communication.

    2. Specify and detail component parts.

    3. Prepare system schematics, P.C. Board schematics, and wiring diagrams to appropriate industry standards using marked up prints.

    4. Prepare drawings required including specification control, assembly detail and proposal drawings.

    5. Operate CAD and computer systems.

    6. Other support functions as assigned.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    Associate degree in Mechanical Design (2 years) or equivalent experience in design of mechanical systems involving sheet metal and electrical components. Proficient in the use of AutoCAD and Inventor based workstations.
