Mechanical Designer jobs in Indiana
Mechanical Designer designs and creates layouts and documentation for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and other mechanical building systems that meet project and technical specifications. Uses computer-aided design (CAD) and other specialized software tools to generate detailed layout plans, schematics, and drawings for mechanical systems. Being a Mechanical Designer maintains accurate and complete change and version control on all design files, documents, and drawings. Incorporates best practices to address design space constraints and ensure compliance with industry standards, safety requirements, and building codes. Additionally, Mechanical Designer collaborates with engineers and other project members. May conduct or participate in site visits to inspect installations or troubleshoot problems. May require an associate degree in mechanical design, drafting or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Mechanical Designer works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Essential Job Functions & Duties:
- Create Sheet Metal based 3D models in Autodesk Inventor and create related blueprints for fabrication and assembly
- Create programs/nests in AutoCAD for laser cutting
- Work closely with CAD Team, Project Managers, Customers to ensure that drawings convey the correct information
- Self-review own work for completeness & accuracy
- Responsible for some basic design elements
- Work from drawings, sketches or scanned images, customer drawings, and specifications
- Ensure all aspects of company policy and procedures in regards to good business and department practices are followed
- Perform other duties as required
Qualifications:
- Comfortable with operating and understanding windows based PC application software
- Ability to read blueprints and a familiarity with drafting/engineering practices and methods
Education and/or Experience:
- Sufficient CAD training or work experience
- Experience with Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD is desirable
- Shop experience (sheet metal fabrication) is also favorable
