Mechanical Designer designs and creates layouts and documentation for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and other mechanical building systems that meet project and technical specifications. Uses computer-aided design (CAD) and other specialized software tools to generate detailed layout plans, schematics, and drawings for mechanical systems. Being a Mechanical Designer maintains accurate and complete change and version control on all design files, documents, and drawings. Incorporates best practices to address design space constraints and ensure compliance with industry standards, safety requirements, and building codes. Additionally, Mechanical Designer collaborates with engineers and other project members. May conduct or participate in site visits to inspect installations or troubleshoot problems. May require an associate degree in mechanical design, drafting or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Mechanical Designer works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Essential Job Functions
1. Design components and assemblies required for the development and manufacture of products from customer specifications or from sketches or verbal instructions
2. Create detailed SolidWorks manufacturing drawings (2D Assembly Drawings, 2D Single part drawings, Flat Patterns, Cut lists, DXfs, etc.) from customer build-to-print designs
3. Create flat drawings with dimensions, bend deductions, and bend radii in the preparation of part fabrication
4. Generate supporting documentation (i.e., BOMs, Spare Part List, Manuals, Solid Models, Engineering Drawings and Reports, Test Plans, Design Reviews, Verification and Validation per ISO 9001)
5. Create work center routing tables using the company's production and planning software enterprise system
6. Perform duties of Planner and other job-related duties, as assigned by management
7. Understand the process and equipment used in fabrication, including lasers, water jets, brake presses, punches, and welding machines
8. Collaborate with multiple departments, vendors, and customers to design and manufacture products that fulfill design intent, as well as achieve budget and schedule goals
9. Interact with the engineering team, technicians, and document control, quality, and operations personnel
10. Utilize the Company's Injury Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), Quality Management System (QMS) and ISO9001:2008 rules and procedures as they apply to their role in safety and quality
Minimum Requirements
1. Associate or Bachelor of Science Degree in Technical or Engineering is preferred, or a combination of experience, education and training may be considered in lieu of a degree
2. 1-5 years’ experience creating 3D models and mechanical drawings using SolidWorks
3. Strong working knowledge of ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
4. Proficient with the following programs:
a. Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
b. 3D CAD modeling: SolidWorks and PDMworks preferred

3. Work in a fast-paced office environment working well with others
4. Ability to walk throughout the large facility several times a day and sit at a desk for extended periods
