Mechanical Designer designs and creates layouts and documentation for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and other mechanical building systems that meet project and technical specifications. Uses computer-aided design (CAD) and other specialized software tools to generate detailed layout plans, schematics, and drawings for mechanical systems. Being a Mechanical Designer maintains accurate and complete change and version control on all design files, documents, and drawings. Incorporates best practices to address design space constraints and ensure compliance with industry standards, safety requirements, and building codes. Additionally, Mechanical Designer collaborates with engineers and other project members. May conduct or participate in site visits to inspect installations or troubleshoot problems. May require an associate degree in mechanical design, drafting or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Mechanical Designer works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. 4-8 years’ experience in mechanical machine design is required.
Must possess machine design experience, preferably with machine tool accessories/equipment.
Able to create detail drawings of parts and assemblies accurately and efficiently for manufacture.
Prefer experience with Swiss type lathes, Citizen and/or Miyano machines a plus.
Associates/Bachelor’s degree helpful but not require.
Understanding of manufacturing processes relative to components designed.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Able to work with periodic/minimal supervision and guidance.
Able to work effectively both individually and with a team.
Proficient with SolidWorks 3D design.
Proficient with MS Office Word and Excel.
