Mechanical Designer designs and creates layouts and documentation for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and other mechanical building systems that meet project and technical specifications. Uses computer-aided design (CAD) and other specialized software tools to generate detailed layout plans, schematics, and drawings for mechanical systems. Being a Mechanical Designer maintains accurate and complete change and version control on all design files, documents, and drawings. Incorporates best practices to address design space constraints and ensure compliance with industry standards, safety requirements, and building codes. Additionally, Mechanical Designer collaborates with engineers and other project members. May conduct or participate in site visits to inspect installations or troubleshoot problems. May require an associate degree in mechanical design, drafting or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Mechanical Designer works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job.     Mechanical Designer – Position and Responsibilities
    As a Mechanical Designer with Middough, you will create and establish simple designs consistent with good practices, client requirements and conformance to Codes & Standards. In this role, you will also apply standard drafting and modeling techniques to generate and interpret drawings in support of assigned projects and provide guidance and leadership to drafters to ensure that all established Company and client design standards and practices are followed.
    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
    • Generate design and detail drawings including orthographic plans/sections, and isometrics to support Discipline Leads.
    • Develop and maintain plant layouts, general arrangements, and equipment and instrument location drawing packages.
    • Develop and maintain flow diagrams and P&ID’s.
    • Revise and maintain equipment and specialty item lists.
    • Develop and maintain project Navisworks models.
    • Generate piping and equipment models using Autodesk Plant 3D, Revit, SolidWorks, Inventor, MicroStation, and Bluebeam technology.
    • Work with laser scan Point Cloud data using Recap and Edgewise to account for existing conditions within design models.
    • Interact with team members across multiple departments/offices, with project clients, and with suppliers to obtain project related information.

    Education, Experience and Skills
    The successful candidate will possess the following:
    • Associate degree in a technical discipline or equivalent, preferred but not necessary.
    • 5 years of experience in designing piping and process equipment systems in a refinery, chemical, or industrial setting required.
    • 5 years of experience using 3D piping and plant design programs, AutoCAD, Plant 3D preferred.
    • Basic hands-on work experience with 2-D CAD, 3-D CAD, and BIM/Revit design programs required.
    • 5 years of experience in piping and/or process equipment designer experience working with isos, creating engineering and/or construction packages, field sketching preferred.
    • Design experience in Petrochemical, Chemical, Steel Making, or other heavy industrial experience preferred.
    • Working knowledge of Codes and Standards
    • Ability to lead CAD drafters and work in a team environment.
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention to detail abilities.
    • Strong multitasking and organizational abilities for efficiency.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

    • May require occasional car or air travel to other company locations or client sites.
    • This position requires the candidate/employee to possess and maintain a valid driver's license in their state of residence.
