Mechanical Designer designs and creates layouts and documentation for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and other mechanical building systems that meet project and technical specifications. Uses computer-aided design (CAD) and other specialized software tools to generate detailed layout plans, schematics, and drawings for mechanical systems. Being a Mechanical Designer maintains accurate and complete change and version control on all design files, documents, and drawings. Incorporates best practices to address design space constraints and ensure compliance with industry standards, safety requirements, and building codes. Additionally, Mechanical Designer collaborates with engineers and other project members. May conduct or participate in site visits to inspect installations or troubleshoot problems. May require an associate degree in mechanical design, drafting or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Mechanical Designer works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. We are currently seeking a Mechanical Project Designer in our Sacramento or Las Vegas office. As a Mechanical Project Designer you will be responsible for calculations, system design, equipment selections, reports, progress submittal, BIM instructions for their project, and specifications required to assure project completeness and accuracy within the allocated period and monetary budget. The Mechanical Project Designer will consistently exercise his/her own discretion and judgment in the performance of theses duties. Additionally, they will mentor designers and/or technicians. Some key duties and responsibilities include: Act as Lead Designer on projects and is able to perform complete mechanical systems design (for a discipline) according to code; Specify equipment based on project needs and available technology, and research resources for commercially available equipment; Calculate costs and time schedules for proposed work; review all files to determine scope and personnel involved; Maintain good client relations, project design notebook, and provide documentation for permanent record files; Coordinate design and schedule with other disciplines such as architectural, structural, electrical, technology, clerical, and equipment suppliers; Document design decisions, meetings, and instructions from client promptly while monitoring project design progress as related to fee expended; Review all project documents for accuracy and completeness prior to requesting a final check; Prepare and issue addendum information; Recognize potential project problems quickly and seek advice from the Project Manager; Review design methods, procedures, changes in scope, and client correspondence with the Project Manager; Conduct periodic job site observations and all other services as required by the contract services agreement. Key skills and abilities needed for the position are: Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans and drawings; Knowledge and prediction of physical principles, laws, and their interrelationships, and applications to understanding fluid, material, and atmospheric dynamics; Skill in the use of Microsoft Office programs, CAD software and BIM; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups. Education and experience requirements are: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering; A minimum of 3 years of qualifying experience. State of California Salary Range $89,000- $116,000. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay will be based on several factors including experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant. Other rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.
