Mechanical Designer designs and creates layouts and documentation for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and other mechanical building systems that meet project and technical specifications. Uses computer-aided design (CAD) and other specialized software tools to generate detailed layout plans, schematics, and drawings for mechanical systems. Being a Mechanical Designer maintains accurate and complete change and version control on all design files, documents, and drawings. Incorporates best practices to address design space constraints and ensure compliance with industry standards, safety requirements, and building codes. Additionally, Mechanical Designer collaborates with engineers and other project members. May conduct or participate in site visits to inspect installations or troubleshoot problems. May require an associate degree in mechanical design, drafting or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Mechanical Designer works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Edgewater is seeking qualified candidates for a Mechanical Designer/Drafter 4 opportunity for our customer in Los Alamos, New Mexico for the LANL Facility.
Work Location: 100% Onsite, TA3 building 1400 NSD

Summary:
Uses computer-aided design (CAD) equipment to produce unique drawings/layouts of non-standard components, facilities and/or systems. Generates complete design packages for complex components, facilities and/or systems and resolves design package issues. Independently defines design requirements and obtains customer approval. Reviews group standards and proposes improvements. Defines modeling structure for large, complex design projects. Applies engineering design principles to design and fabricate complex and/or non-standard components and assemblies. Performs complex calculations in support of unique technical problems. Determines budget and schedule information. Determines fabrication, construction, operation, and maintenance requirements for project. Works independently and as part of a team. Leads projects and supervises work. Leads process improvement activities.
Desired Job Requirements:
Mechanical Design Experience
Experience designing mechanical hardware assemblies and applying engineering concepts to mechanical designs. Working knowledge of ASME Y series design/drafting standards, including Y14.5M Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing. Experience with Creo Parametric 3D CAD Software.
Manufacturing Experience
Knowledge of hardware fabrication processes.
Communication and Teamwork
Demonstrated effective and efficient written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated record of developing constructive, cooperative working relationships and working with teams to meet deliverables.
Education/Experience
A Bachelor of Science in engineering technology or an Associates of Science degree in design/drafting or engineering practices plus a minimum of 15- 20 years of experience with CAD, and CREO.

Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.
