Looking for a Full-Time Mechanical Designer/Drafter for a manufacturing facility.
In this role, you will be designing custom equipment, meaning you will rarely design/draw the same thing twice. Each project presents its own unique challenges, requiring unique solutions, keeping you interested, and engaged.
I dare say that the equipment we get to design is often pretty darn “cool”. In addition, you have full access to watch your design come to life in the on-site fabrication facility. Having the ability to see the finished product that you designed 6 weeks ago is very rewarding.
This facility designs and fabricates custom bulk material handling equipment and services, for companies across all industries, and ships equipment all across the world.
We design and fabricate equipment to meter/move almost any solid material throughout customers’ factories. Below are just a few applications we found interesting during the design phase:
· Large diameter screw conveyor that cooks rice while moving it
· Wet cement conveyor / mold filler to make paving stones
· Anode/cathode ingredient batch dosing screws to make batteries
· 30ft reversing belt conveyor that drives itself up and down a railed track conveying additives for making steel plates and sheets
· Equipment that transports:
- Bulk Peanut butter
- Packaged chocolate bars
- Paper Pulp for making tissues
- Unpackaged Whole Jelly Beans
- Large chunks of heavy ores for making steel
- Unpackaged Dry Pasta
- Bulk Chocolate milk powder
- Shredded Tires
Responsibilities
· Design equipment to meet customer, CEMA, and internal specifications
· Create 3D models of custom bulk material handling equipment using SolidWorks
· Create 2D drawings for customers to review/approve/modify before we manufacture
· Create detail drawings for shop fabrication and assembly of equipment you have designed
· Develop product expertise based on company designs in belt conveyors, bucket elevators and screw conveyors
· Interpret technical specifications and translate them into visual representations
· Identifying and communicating potential design problems to the rest of the team/customer
· Complete calculations to size/select certain design components
· Ensuring that all drawings are accurate and meet industry and drafting standards
· Maintain organized files and documentation of all drawings
Qualifications
· Proficient in Solidworks or AutoCAD 3D modelling software (2-3 years minimum)
· Strong knowledge and experience with CAD software for creating accurate and detailed mechanical drawings
· Understanding of drafting principles and standards for creating clear and concise drawings
· Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
· Grasps technical concepts and can communicate them simply, both written and verbally
· Our ideal candidate has a associate degree in drafting or a bachelor in engineering, and is comfortable using computer-aided design software to communicate detailed technical information
· Experience in a manufacturing environment (1 year minimum)
· Preferred to have basic understanding of metal fabrication processes like Plasma cutting, forming/bending, and welding (to know what can and cannot be manufactured)
· Proficient with math used for basic calculations (Algebra & higher)
· Self Motivated, but willing to function as part of a team
· Shows a curiosity that inspires others
The pay range is wide because we are interested in speaking with those of all levels of drafting experience, and education background.
