  • Purpose of the Position

    ·       Assists in the design and analysis of hardware, components and systems for the development of new and/or support of current products.

    Principal Duties/Responsibilities of the Position

    • Generate work instructions and manage task assignments for mechanical technicians of the test facility, test support systems and facility operations.
    • Provide Mechanical Engineering support for Facility and STE fabrication, buildup, activation, test operations, and disassembly phases for test programs. These systems are composed of cryogenic, non-cryogenic, vacuum to ultra high-pressure (UHP) - 15000 psi propellant storage, run, distribution and disposal systems for existing facilities, Special Test Equipment (STE), and Ground Support Equipment (GSE).
    • Prepare or review test documentation and procedures to operate systems for activation and test operations, to perform data analysis, and to perform data reporting
    • Support test team with operating test control computers and data systems during propulsion tests.
    • All other duties as assigned.

    Education and Experience Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field preferred.
    • Two or more years of experience in mechanical engineering, working with cryogenic systems, or maintaining operational mechanical systems. Experience working with mechanical design principles and practices.
    • Experience working with drawing standards including tolerances and detailed drawings.
    • Experience working with production processes to include fabrication, plastic injection molding, metal forming and/or machining processes.

    Other Requirements

    • Must be a U.S. Citizen in order to obtain required NASA badge.
    • Must be able to provide a certified Birth Certificate (with state seal), Passport, or INS Citizenship documents on date of hire (candidate will be sent home if this paperwork is not provided upon arrival on date of hire).
    • Must have the ability to communicate the English language, both verbally and written, in an effective manner.
    • Must have, and maintain, a valid driver’s license.

    Physical Requirements

    • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
    • Dexterity to operate office and field equipment as required by the position.

    Preferences

    ·       Prior knowledge of NASA site, experienced with working on government installations preferred.
