Mechanical Engineering Manager manages the design and analysis of mechanical components and systems to meet specified requirements and standards. Provides technical direction to team members in designing, developing, and testing mechanical systems or components. Being a Mechanical Engineering Manager utilizes CAD software and other design and modeling tools to plan, develop, and improve mechanical parts or components. Oversees prototype testing to evaluate the performance, reliability, and safety of mechanical systems and reviews data and analysis to develop improvements. Additionally, Mechanical Engineering Manager manages engineering projects through their entire lifecycle, including cost and requirement analysis, scheduling, and coordinating activities with stakeholders. Establishes programs to support training, process improvements, and best practices and protocols. Leads initiatives with other departments to identify potential products and projects. Stays abreast of new technologies and processes and implements changes to improve the organization's mechanical engineering capabilities. Requires a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. Typically reports to a director. The Mechanical Engineering Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Mechanical Engineering Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required. Engineering Manager

  • RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Manage the activities and staff of the Engineering Department.
    • Provide technical support for and participate in the development and/or revision of scrap tire size reduction machines and ancillary equipment.
    • Develop new processes, including the selection of equipment and generation of layouts to expand the company’s product offerings.
    • Prepare engineering schedules, specifications, and other required documentation.
    • Solve technical problems and conflicts and review special applications.
    • Support and develop strong relations with customers.
    • Maintain technical coordination between the Engineering staff and other departments, including Production, Purchasing, Sales and Customer Service.
    • Support production personnel in the resolution of manufacturing/testing challenges.
    • Generate designs and layouts to support Sales and Customer Service.
    • Review, create and approve designs generated by the Engineering Department.
    • Fulfill any additional duties assigned by the General Manager.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education:           

    • BS in Mechanical Engineering from accredited College or University

    Experience:

    • A minimum of 10 years mechanical design experience with emphasis on heavy-duty size reduction equipment such as shredders, granulators and/or hammer mills, or similar heavy rotating machines.

    Specific skills and knowledge requirement:

    • Proficiency in engineering disciplines with proven ability to create practical machine designs.
    • Must possess excellent problem solving skills, including implementation of the scientific method to assess, analyze and implement proper solutions.
    • Must be knowledgeable of manufacturing processes in a low to medium quantity production environment, including welding and machining processes.
    • Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Must be proficient in the use of MS Word & Excel, AutoCAD, and have a minimum of 5 years design experience using SolidWorks.
    • Ability to perform FEA with SolidWorks Simulation.
    • Experience in industrial machine electrical systems a plus.
