Mechanical Engineering Supervisor oversees the designing of engines, tools, and other mechanical equipment and industrial processes. Also responsible for supervising the production, operation, repair and maintenance of equipment. Being a Mechanical Engineering Supervisor may work with other engineering departments to aid in the development and usage of robotics to improve productivity. A level I supervisor is considered a working supervisor with little authority for personnel actions. Additionally, Mechanical Engineering Supervisor may require a bachelor's degree in area of specialty. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Working team member that may validate or coordinate the work of others on a support team. Suggests improvements to process, is a knowledge resource for other team members.   • Duties

    • Review and analyze equipment maintenance logs.
    • Monitor the preventive maintenance program to ensure all elements of the program are developed.
    • Monitor and inspect maintenance, repair and construction of contractors.
    • Evaluate equipment and system performance and assesses system efficiency.
    • Assist in the maintenance of a quality assurance program by conducting routine facility inspections.

    • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
    • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
    • This position may require the incumbent to work weekends and/or holidays.
    • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
    • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.

    Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes monitoring utility systems for preventive maintenance, performing quality assurance inspections of contractor work projects, preparing designs and specifications for assigned systems in a medical facility, knowledge of Joint Commission Standards, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Codes and other building codes, or knowledge of building automation systems (BAS).This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10).

    Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
