Mechanical Engineering Technician assists mechanical engineers in the planning and testing of mechanical components, equipment, and machinery, such as engines, instruments, controls, robots, machines, etc. Helps prepare proposals and cost estimates. Estimates work load to establish completion dates. Being a Mechanical Engineering Technician requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Mechanical Engineering Technician may require 0-1 year of general work experience. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job.     Description

    POSITION SUMMARY

     

    This is an entry level position that is normally regarded as a continuing portion of an engineer’s initial work experience, training, and development.  Projects of limited scope and complexity using a variety of standard engineering methods and techniques in solving problems will be assigned.  The engineer will assist more senior level engineers in carrying out technical tasks requiring accuracy in calculations, completeness of data and adherence to prescribed analysis, design, or computation methods.

    Work is closely managed and reviewed for accuracy and adequacy. Follows specific, outlined, and detailed directions.

    Provides resolution to problems that are readily identifiable with limited scope and are resolved in accordance with standard practices, procedures, applications, or routines.

    Problem/ Task resolution timeframe: The majority of tasks typically take one to two days to resolve.

    Contacts are primarily with direct supervisor and others in group or department to give and receive information.

    Mechanical Engineer Intern

    • Works closely with a member of the team to enhance knowledge and skillset.
    • Learns and implements the Company’s Best Practices for projects and processes.
    • Assist on simple mechanical engineer concepts with oversight from a mentor.

    Mechanical Engineer IV

    • Works closely with a member of the team to enhance knowledge and skillset.
    • Learns and implements the Company’s Best Practices for projects and processes.
    • Responsible for studies of limited scope requiring application of prescribed engineering methods. 

    Mechanical Engineer III

    • Use initiative and judgement to resolve problems, create engineering specifications, write technical reports, and investigate design and field engineering difficulties.
    • Contribute to progress reports. Recommend changes in plans and estimate costs for completed work.
    • Some knowledge of related engineering disciplines is required.

    Mechanical Engineer II

    • Analyze problems, organize investigations, and determine specific design criteria.
    • Use initiative and judgement to recognize the implications of experimental results on other problems and devise new approaches.
    • Discuss projects and problems with senior specialists and colleagues to determine relative priorities and implications on work of others.

    Mechanical Engineer I

    • Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate detailed engineering work.
    • In a supervisory capacity, plan, develop, coordinate, and direct a small to mid-size project.
    • Perform work which involves conventional engineering practice but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials and difficult coordination requirements.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Engineer Intern - Education = Junior or Senior in University/College

    Engineer IV - Education = Bachelor's

    Engineer III - Education = Bachelor's; Experience = 2 years

    Engineer II - Education = Bachelor's; Experience = 4 years

    Engineer I - Education = Bachelor's; Experience = 6 years; Licensure = FE or 8 years experience
