What you'll do:
The Mechanical Engineering Group Leader position is responsible for supporting the Engineering Director by identifying and completing engineering activities assigned to the group, as well as resource planning and talent development.
* Support Engineering Director with identifying, prioritizing, and completing engineering activities requested for production design, development projects, or product/process improvements
* Serve as initial point of contact for the Application Engineers for work assignments and priority
* Provide technical guidance or direction to team members
* Complete periodic assessments of job performance including input to annual performance reviews of team members
* Maintain department resource planning tools, identifying requirements and/or adjustments based on current and forecasted workload
* Train, or facilitate the training of, new associates in all aspects of their job
* Support new and current team member activities - hiring, performance, management, transfers, promotions and disciplinary processes
* Motivate, coach, reward, and discipline associates being supervised; resolve personnel issues
* Maintain a high degree of visibility and access to associates, stay up to date on overall activities of the team, identify problem areas, and take corrective actions when necessary
* Communicate effectively at all levels of the organization and with cross-functional teams (materials, purchasing, sales, etcetera) to resolve issues and ensure objectives are met
* Perform duties similar to those of direct reports (approximately fifty percent of the time), such as:
o Design, develop, and re-design new or existing products
o Determine, interpret, and establish specifications through engineering calculations or layouts
o Complete engineering activities for production design, development projects, or product / process improvements
* Other duties as assigned
What you need to be successful:
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required
* Minimum of five years engineering experience related to the design and development of on-highway, heavy truck, specialty, or automotive vehicles
* Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
* Possess a CDL, or be willing to obtain (Preferred)
