Media Production Director oversees and plans the pre-production, production, and post-production stages of television or web shows, broadcasts, or videos. Completes pre-production processes, including ideation, concept creation, casting, script writing, budgeting, specifications, and scheduling. Being a Media Production Director defines and organizes the technical and logistical resources required for each production. Assembles the required team of production specialists for each production's camera, sound, lighting, and other functions. Additionally, Media Production Director directs post-production editing operations. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Media Production Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Media Production Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Position Definition:
    The Director of Marketing and Media Design develops, directs and supervises the College's marketing and public communications efforts and performs related work as required.

    Examples of Duties/Essential Functions:
    Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: Develops and implements the colleges marketing efforts; plans and administers the marketing budget to ensure the most cost effective use of resources; designs and purchases advertising and related materials. Evaluates the effectiveness of all marketing and communications efforts on an ongoing basis to ensure the timely adjustment of strategies and plans to meet changing conditions. Develops effective relationships with all Bay Area media ensuring clarity and consistency of the colleges public information. Prepares news releases, generates feature stories, responds to news inquiries, and serves as the colleges spokesperson when appropriate. Ensures the effectiveness of communication both within the college and with the external community. Develops new communication strategies as necessary. Communicates college goals, strategies and outcomes to the public and various community, state and educational groups. As resources allow, assists in publicizing events and programs; maintains media lists, media contacts and mailing lists. Supervises media/graphic designers and others in the preparation and production of college publications, marketing materials, and related items. Assists with marketing/public relations activities for the district office as needed and coordinates efforts with other colleges in the district. Performs other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Education/Experience:
    Possession of a Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university. Experience: Four years work experience in marketing, media, public relations, or related field. License/Certification: A valid Class C California Drivers License.

    Knowledge Of:
    Composition, layout and production of college publications; principles and techniques of public communication, internal communications and public relations; general journalism including composition and elements of writing for broad readership; current trends of marketing and advertising; planning, implementing and evaluating comprehensive marketing and communication plans/strategies; methods of establishing and maintaining good public and community relations.

    Ability To:
    Direct marketing and communication efforts for the college; maintain relationships with the media, notifying them of events, news releases and other pertinent information; manage staff involved in production of college publications, marketing materials and other related items; develop and implement effective marketing campaigns and materials; administer marketing budget; exercise tact and diplomacy when dealing with sensitive and confidential matters. Demonstrated accomplishment in written, verbal, and analytical skills; ability to interact with diverse groups and individuals.

    Desirable Qualifications:
    Experience with and/or expertise in
    • Leading a marketing unit for a complex organization consisting of multiple departments and stakeholder groups
    • Digital and traditional advertising, social media, search engine optimization, customer relationship management (CRM), and enrollment management strategies
    • Effectively and simultaneously managing multiple projects, timelines, and contributors
    • Effectively planning, coordinating, and editing materials for final publication and distribution
    • Public relations/information, working with the media, and fostering engagement with the external community

    Demonstrated leadership and success with
    • Utilizing strong written and oral communication skills to design and present information in various formats to broad/diverse constituencies
    • Building consensus, cultivating collaborative teams, and fostering positive relationships with diverse groups
    • Developing, implementing, and effectively managing advertising, social media, and website strategies
    • Promoting a culture of inclusiveness and respect for all members of the organization/College community, and maintaining a supportive and engaging work/learning environment
    • Applying an equity-minded approach to work and service

    Ability to
    - Create a vision for an organizations marketing strategies, and translate short- and long-term goals into actionable marketing activities
    • Think strategically about metrics and performance indicators to help measure success in meeting marketing goals
    • Identify and implement new technology, tools, processes, and communication methods
    • Implement District policies and procedures, while working effectively with faculty and staff in a collective bargaining environment.
    • Understand and support the community college mission

    Special Instructions:
    Note: New employees will be placed at the first step which is $9,758.00 per month, second step $10,251.00 per month or third step at $10,770.00 per month (depending upon experience). Based on current salary placement guidelines, all step increases for which an employee becomes eligible shall take place on July 1st of each fiscal year. These increases will occur, on annual basis, until the maximum step of $11,888.00 per month is reached on the salary schedule.
